7 years and 3 months and I had a grief attack.

The moment nobody talks about.
Not the funeral.
Not the first holidays.
Not the anniversaries.
The random Tuesday afternoon
six months later
when everyone else has moved on
and you're standing in the grocery store
in the cereal aisle...
and it hits you so hard
you have to hold onto the cart
just to stay standing.
No warning...
No reason...
Just gone again.
All at once.
In the middle of an ordinary day
that had no right
to hurt that much.
That's the one nobody prepares you for.
The grief that doesn't show up
on the hard days.
It shows up on the regular ones.
Because that's when your guard is down.
That's when you forgot
for just one second...
And then you remembered.
