2026 BY THE NUMBERS

It has been a busy summer for the Mansfield Fire Department, continuing what has been a busy year overall. Our crews have handled a steady mix of medical emergencies, fires, crashes, hazardous conditions, alarms, rescues, and public service calls.

From January 1 through August 25, the department responded to 2,693 incidents. That averages more than 11 incidents every day.

Our primary incident categories included:

• 1,730 medical emergencies

• 405 public service calls

• 262 canceled responses, false alarms, and good-intent calls

• 222 hazardous situations

• 57 fires

• 9 rescue incidents

• 8 law enforcement support responses

Some of the incidents handled by our firefighters and paramedics included:

• 304 falls

• 194 motor vehicle crashes

• 338 alarm-related calls

• 127 breathing emergencies

• 112 chest pain emergencies

• 52 power line or electrical emergencies

• 50 gas leaks or gas odor investigations

• 20 cardiac arrests

Our personnel continue to respond around the clock to meet the needs of Mansfield’s residents, businesses, and visitors.

Thank you to our firefighters, paramedics, Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center dispatchers, and mutual aid partners for their continued work and commitment to our community.

Ivy Wright is an 18-month-old Mansfield resident living with an extremely rare genetic disease caused by a pathogenic mutation in the GRIA2 gene.

Ivy’s family, alongside the n-lorem Foundation, is working tirelessly toward a treatment and, ultimately, a cure—not only for Ivy, but for children just like her.

Their goal is to raise $1.6 million by March 2027 to help fund the development of a personalized treatment for Ivy. Thanks to Ivy’s incredible village of family, friends, and supporters, $886,967 has already been raised!

The past 48 hours have been an extremely difficult and emotional time for the Massachusetts fire service.

Mansfield Firefighters Local 1820 extends our deepest condolences to the Taunton and Marshfield Fire Departments as they mourn the loss of two of their own. Our thoughts and prayers are with Taunton Firefighter Kyle Machado and Marshfield Captain William Shields, their families and friends, and the brothers and sisters of the Taunton Firefighter's IAFF Local 138 and Marshfield Firefighters Local 2568 as they navigate this difficult time.

Mansfield Car 31, Car 33, Engine 31, Engine 32, Tower 37, and Rescue 36 are on scene at the Mansfield High School for a Waste Management trash truck fire. Fire has been extinguished, and companies are making up. Waste Management cleanup company is responding to the scene.

Thank you to the Mansfield Department of Public Works for having a backhoe loader respond to assist with extinguishing the fire!

Simultaneously, a small brush fire occurred in the plaza of Shaws. Squad 33, and Engine 32 on a delay, responded to extinguish the fire.

Mansfield Engine 32 and Norton Engine 45 are on scene 495 South Bound mile marker 30.2 with a pickup truck fully involved. The vehicle fire has been extinguished, and companies are standing by for the tow.

Anyone attending Avenged Sevenfold & Good Charlotte at the Xfinity Center this evening can expect traffic arriving at the venue.

Mansfield Engine 32 and Rescue 36, North Attleboro Engine 5 and Car 3, and Mass State Police are currently operating at a motor vehicle fire on I-95 Southbound in the area of mile marker 10.7.

Motorists are urged to use caution and expect delays while emergency crews operate in the area. Please move over and slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.

Today, Mansfield Fire’s Tower 37 stopped by the Mansfield Parks & Recreation Summer Camp to help cool off campers during a hot and humid 95-degree day! Tower 37 utilized its master stream to spray water from the bucket, giving a group of excited campers a refreshing way to beat the heat. A big thank you to the Mansfield Parks & Recreation camp staff for having us out and allowing us to spend some time with the campers. We had a great time, and look forward to next summer!

Over the past two days, our Group 1 and Group 2 duty crews participated in hands-on training focused on vehicle lifting and victim extrication using high-pressure lifting airbags.

Firefighters simulated a patient trapped beneath a vehicle, utilizing airbags and cribbing to safely perform a controlled lift and gain access to the patient. This specialized training builds the skills needed to safely and efficiently rescue trapped victims while minimizing further injury.

Our firefighters conduct regular hands-on training to ensure we are prepared to respond when every second counts during the most complex incident.
