At 1149 hours, Mansfield Engine 32 and Rescue 36, along with companies from Norton Fire and Taunton Brewster EMS, responded to I-495 Northbound at mile marker 27.6 for a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, companies located a three-car motor vehicle accident, with two vehicles in the median and one vehicle in the woods on the breakdown-lane side of the highway.

Two patients were trapped inside their vehicles and required extrication. Firefighters utilized the Jaws of Life to safely extricate both patients. During extrication, Mansfield Car 32 responded with two units of whole blood to intercept with Rescue 36, but was canceled while en route.

Two patients were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, while a third patient was transported to BMC-South for further evaluation.

Yesterday and today, members of Groups 3 & 4 had the opportunity to conduct training on an acquired structure located at 8 Eddy Street in the Town of Mansfield.

Members conducted a full first-alarm drill, allowing crews to work through a variety of critical fireground operations. Companies established a water supply, deployed and advanced attack lines, flowed water, forced entry into the structure, conducted primary searches, performed interior overhaul operations, and completed vertical ventilation on the roof.

Training on acquired structures provides our firefighters with valuable, real-world experience. These opportunities allow our members to practice essential skills that would be performed on a real fire ground.

We would like to sincerely thank a local Foxborough developer for generously donating the property to the Mansfield Fire Department. Opportunities like this are invaluable in helping our members maintain and improve skills!

Rescue 36 participated in a mock mass casualty incident facilitated by the Norton Fire - Rescue Department! Thank you to Norton Fire - Rescue Department for allowing us to participate and gain valuable experience alongside our mutual aid partners. Training together helps strengthen coordination, communication, and patient care for when we’re called upon to work together during real incidents!

At 1957 hours this evening, Mansfield Car 32, Car 35, Engine 32, and Rescue 36, along with Foxborough Ladder 26 and Rescue 27, responded to a seven-vehicle motor vehicle accident on I-495 South at mile marker 31.2.

Upon arrival, Rescue 36 found multiple vehicles with significant damage and requested additional ambulances to the scene. The two paramedics assigned to Rescue 36 immediately began triaging the numerous patients prior to the arrival of additional companies.

Car 32 assumed command and requested a total of six ambulances to respond to the incident.

Mansfield Rescue 35 and Rescue 36, Foxborough Rescue 27 and Rescue 28, Norton Rescue 41, and Plainville A2 transported a total of six patients to Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center South, and Sturdy Memorial Hospital.

Simultaneously, Mansfield Fire received an additional medical emergency in town Engine 31 and a Sharon rescue responded to. In addition, a Foxborough and Walpole engine responded to 95 North Bound mile marker fire 11.6 in Mansfield for a brush fire. Easton Engine 13 provided station coverage.

We would like to thank all of the mutual aid departments and responding personnel for their assistance. Their coordinated response was instrumental in managing a significant multi-vehicle crash, and handling additional emergencies with limited resources.
