Studies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine will also help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19.

Protecting yourself also protects the people around you, like those at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 or those who can’t get vaccinated — including infants, or people with weakened immune systems from things like chemotherapy for cancer.

The Ohio National Guard is doing in-home Covid vaccinations through the Area Agency on Aging. To see if you qualify, call Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging (AAA) at 567-247-6503 or 419-524-4144.

You'll be asked a few screening questions, such as whether you're able to rely on family or a caretaker to take you to a vaccine provider.

If you don't qualify for in-home vaccination, AAA staff can provide other resources, including transportation support, according to Nicole Williams, vice president of marketing and development for Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, which serves nine counties, including Richland.

Members of the Ohio National Guard can perform in-home vaccinations for those who meet certain criteria.

WHY DID YOU GET VACCINATED?
We got vaccinated to do our part for the community and so we can be around our family and friends without the concern of being silent carriers of COVID. We had already had COVID in November of 2020, so we know that it affects everyone differently.

WHICH VACCINE? ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
What makes our story fun, is that each of us got a different vaccine. One got J&J, another Pfizer, and another Moderna! The side effects for J&J was three days of cold symptoms, for the Pfizer there was a very sore arm and feeling really tired for a day after the second dose. The receiver of Moderna felt fine for the first dose, and run-down for two days after the second dose.
The side effects of the vaccine were still much better than having COVID-19!

WHY DID YOU TRUST THE VACCINE?
People have been getting vaccines for everything from polio to shingles! We listened to the doctors and trusted they would not be endorsing a vaccine that would create more problems with our health. Also, there was a great video (thanks Netflix!) on how the vaccine was developed that we watched to have other questions answered.

WHAT'S ONE NORMAL THING YOU DID OR ARE GOING TO DO THAT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE DONE BEFORE YOUR SHOT?
We all love not having to mask with our friends, hugs are back in, and we are able to care better for the vulnerable! It has been miserable not being in close community with others and so having this little extra protection for our health relieves our anxiety about catching and/or spreading this virus. We have now had other vaccinated friends and family visit from out of state, which has been SO much fun!
