This morning, I had the honor of watching the Manor firefighters take part in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the football stadium. As I watched them climb, step after step. It was a powerful and emotional reminder of the courage and sacrifice and brotherhood of the first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away. Each step represents a life lost, a family changed, and a promise that we will never forget.
The Manor Firefighters and first responders climbed all 110 flights of stairs in honor of the 110 floors of the World Trade Center. With every step, they carried the memory of the firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.
I was also incredibly proud to watch the Manor New Tech High School Band open the memorial by playing our National Anthem. 🇺🇸 Hearing our young people proudly play The Star-Spangled Banner was a beautiful reminder that the spirit of our nation lives on in the next generation.
And then, those students did something that truly touched my heart — they climbed all 110 flights of stairs alongside the first responders. To see these young men and women honor the fallen through their actions, not just their words, was incredibly moving.
As President of the American Legion Auxiliary, I could not have been prouder to witness this. Our mission is to honor those who served and sacrificed for our country, and today I saw that same spirit of service and remembrance in our first responders and in the young people of our community.
Today was a reminder that we may never be able to change what happened on September 11, 2001, but we can choose to remember. We can choose to honor. And we can choose to teach the next generation why we must never forget.
My heart goes out to the 2,977 people who never came home, their families, and all of the heroes who gave their lives trying to save others.
I watched those stairs being climbed this morning with pride in my heart, and immense gratitude for those who continue to carry their memory forward.
We remember.
We honor.
We give thanks.
And we will NEVER FORGET.
🇺🇸 God bless our first responders. God bless our veterans. God bless our young people. And God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸
September 11, 2001 — Never Forget.
