This is what parvo does to a shelter. Doors must close to the public.
Special diets must be prepared for the animals who are affected.
Disinfecting becomes round-the-clock.
The burn of bleach stench sits heavy in the air.
Laundry, laundry.
And more laundry.
Staff worn thin but not stopping to care for the animals they love.
Please be sure your family dogs are vaccinated against parvo. See our previous post about where to go for the vaccination if you don't have a family veterinarian.
And please support Herkimer County Humane Society in any way you can. Read their parvo posts. Caring for dogs with parvo is expensive - with no guarantee that a dog will survive.
Sheltering is not for the weak of heart.
Shelter workers have plenty of heart.
Herkimer County Humane Society is just down the road from us and they're working their hearts out to care for their dogs.
π§Ί TOWEL PLEA FOR THE SHELTER π§Ί
Yep itβs us again asking for help.π€
As many of you know, we have been in full cleaning/disinfecting mode around the clock. The piles of empty bleach bottles from nonstop scrubbing, sanitizing, washing and doing everything humanly possible to keep our dogs safe and healthy shows how we have been working our a**es off.
Because of the constant cleaning, laundry, baths, accidents and bedding changes, we are going through towels at an unbelievable rate.
We need your old bath towels.π
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, and as always your kindness is helping us get through an incredibly difficult time.
Every towel helps. Every share helps. Every bit of support reminds us weβre not doing this alone. πΎ
Thank you for standing beside our staff and pups.β€οΈβπ©Ή
