One of the best parts of MFSC is the chance for our skaters to connect, make friends, and have fun together on and off the ice! Throughout the year, we offer plenty of opportunities for our skating families to come together, and our Junior Board is helping make those experiences possible.

MFSC skaters are invited to our Halloween Party on Sunday, October 25, from 2:45 to 3:45 pm in the Mav Room! Skaters are encouraged to wear their costumes and enjoy an afternoon of games, cookie decorating, treats, and a costume contest. 🎃

A special thank-you to Payten, Sage, and Maddie for their work on the MFSC Junior Board and for organizing this event. We appreciate the time and effort they put into helping make our club a great place to skate and build friendships!

MFSC skaters, check your emails and make sure to RSVP! We hope to see you at the party! ⛸️💙

Today, our spotlight shines on Crystal VanThuyne, one of the coaches who help keep our skaters learning, growing, and having fun on the ice!

For over a decade, Crystal was a dedicated member of the Burnsville-Minnesota Valley Figure Skating Club, where she trained and competed in figure skating. She participated in 4–5 competitions each year and passed her Pre-Silver Singles and Pre-Gold Skating Skills tests. She also enjoyed teaching Learn to Skate lessons in Burnsville, Prior Lake, and Bemidji.

Today, Crystal works as an Intake Specialist for the Minnesota Department of Health. Her skating journey has taught her the value of patience, perseverance, and goal-setting, lessons she can continue to share with skaters as they learn and grow.

A few of Crystal’s favorites? The color green, salt and vinegar chips, and her dog, Jet! She also has around 100 houseplants. 🌿

We’re glad to have Crystal as part of the MFSC coaching team! ⛸️💙

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples Day and honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, past and present.

We recognize the importance of listening, learning, and fostering respect for Indigenous communities and their enduring contributions to our shared communities and history.

Meet Maria Selting, one of the coaches helping our newest skaters build their skills and confidence on the ice!

Maria has been skating since fourth grade and joined the MFSC coaching team earlier this year. She works with our Basic Skills skaters, helping beginners learn the fundamentals of figure skating through the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.

Originally from Ringle, Wisconsin, Maria is currently studying Nutrition and Dietetics at Minnesota State University, Mankato, with hopes of becoming an NFL dietitian someday! In high school, she also enjoyed dance, track, and cross country.

Maria is grateful for the memories and friendships skating has given her, and she hopes to help her students create those same kinds of experiences as they learn and grow on the ice.

And a fun fact about Maria: she runs track and cross country at MSU!

We’re glad to have Maria as part of the MFSC Basic Skills coaching team! ⛸️💙

Today, the coach spotlight shines on Emily Christenson, one of the coaches who help keep our skaters learning, growing, and having fun on the ice!

Emily has been skating since 1999 and has been coaching with the Mankato Figure Skating Club since 2011. As a skater, Emily was a member of MFSC and the Mankato Silverblades Synchronized Skating team. Emily coaches Senior and Junior Club skaters, as well as Basic Skills.

Emily has a degree in child development and works as the Infant Coordinator at Golden Heart Child Care Center. She enjoys all aspects of skating and coaching, including the challenges that come with the sport. One of her favorite parts of coaching is sharing her passion for skating with her students and watching them grow both as skaters and as individuals.

And here’s a fun fact: Emily has a dirt track car that she races at Arlington Raceway! 🏁

We’re grateful to have Emily as part of the MFSC coaching team! ⛸️

Today, we’re spotlighting Hannah Hulke, one of the coaches who help keep our skaters learning, growing, and having fun on the ice!

Hannah has been skating since she was just 16 months old and has been part of the Mankato Figure Skating Club since she was four. Along the way, she also skated with Braemar City of Lakes Figure Skating Club and Minnetonka Figure Skating Club, training with several coaches, and working hard to achieve her Gold Skating Skills and Gold Singles accomplishments.

Hannah has been coaching with MFSC since 2011 and loves watching young skaters learn new skills and make progress along the way. Her own skating journey gives her plenty of experience to share with the next generation of skaters.

Outside the rink, Hannah enjoys cooking, baking, and making sourdough. And her advice for new skaters? Don’t be afraid to fall, just remember to keep getting back up!

We’re grateful to have Hannah as part of the MFSC coaching team! ⛸️💙
