The Mankato Flood Wall Mural project is a public art initiative of area artists, Twin Rivers Council for the Arts and the City Center Partnership as part of CityArt public art programming. In the fall of 2015 several area artists expressed the desire to create murals on the flood wall, which is owned and maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. Artist Julie Johnson Fahrforth approached the CityA
rt committee about creating a natural river scene between the Depot and Reconciliation Park, as this is a main entry point into the river/trail system. The Army Corps of Engineers has granted partial approval of the project, contingent on the City of Mankato completing necessary paperwork and the mural design and paint application techniques being approved. The artists involved in the project include Julie Johnson Fahrforth, Andrew Judkins, Ann E. Judkins, Michael Cimino and Rhonda Dass. Twin Rivers Council for the Arts and the City Center Partnership are helping raise funds and awareness of the project. The timeline for completion of the mural is based on when final approval is granted from the Army Corps of Engineers and the fundraising goal of $18,000 has been raised. The hope is to complete the mural this summer over a two week period.
