Mankato Area Foundation The Mankato Area Foundation is a donor-driven community foundation whose purpose is to improve the livability in Greater Mankato through philanthropy.

Incorporated June 10, 1974, MAF began its work with a volunteer board and no paid staff. The Board of Directors included local individuals who wanted to make Mankato and the surrounding area a better place to live, work and raise families. These founding board members saw the need for a community foundation that would encourage donations to significant projects and to improve the community, and would also be able to receive charitable contributions from wills and estates. Today the Mankato Area Foundation is viewed as a trusted resource connecting donors with causes they care about, providing funding to address key community objectives and convening individuals and organizations to find solutions to local challenges.

Here's a glimpse of some of the good we've up to across the community! Last week we hosted a conversation with Abdo about strengthening trust and confidence in philanthropy, and later welcomed nonprofits to learn about the role they can play in voter engagement.

And, this week we once again gave out (and ran out of!) raisins at the VINE Love Your Age 55+ Expo. We love “raisin” awareness about charitable giving in our region, one little box at a time!

Through the second annual Mankato/St. Peter Out of the Darkness Walk for Su***de Prevention, community members will come together to honor loved ones, support one another, and build a stronger, more compassionate network around mental health.

Thanks to support from a donor advised fund, MAF was able to help Friends Of Learning Back to School Project provide 654 students in St. Peter and rural Nicollet County with backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies.

We also had a few staff members volunteer to fill backpacks and ended up crossing paths with one of our MAF investment committee members doing the same. It’s always great to see our community come together to help our kiddos start the school year strong!
