🌾 Introducing Giving Acres, helping farm families preserve their legacy!
The Greater Salina Community Foundation and our regional affiliates are proud to announce the launch of Giving Acres, a farmland giving program that helps farmers, ranchers and agricultural landowners preserve their legacy through charitable gifts of farmland.

For many farmers and ranchers, land is more than acres and boundaries. It represents generations of hard work, stewardship, and deep-rooted values. Giving Acres offers charitable giving options that allow landowners to support the communities they love while ensuring their values continue to make an impact for generations to come. 🩵

Leadership Mitchell County is excited to welcome Class 26! This year's class brings together 16 individuals who live or work in Mitchell County and are eager to grow as leaders, build new connections, and gain a deeper understanding of the communities they serve.

Members of Leadership Mitchell County Class 26 are 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐝𝐭, 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐞, 𝐂𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐃𝐞𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧, 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐄𝐥𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝, 𝐑𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐧, 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐧, 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬, 𝐓𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐤, 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫, 𝐁𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫, 𝐙𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫, and 𝐊𝐢𝐦 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬.

Through interactive sessions, networking opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences, Class 26 participants gain a deeper understanding of the people, organizations, industries, and challenges that shape Mitchell County. The 2026-2027 program officially begins with the annual Welcome Picnic on Sunday, August 16, at the Hunter Community Center. Throughout the year, class members will explore topics including agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, education, tourism, economic development, local government, and more while building meaningful connections with fellow participants and community leaders.

Leadership Mitchell County continues to evolve each year through the dedication of its volunteer Board of Directors and Committees, who regularly refine the program based on participant feedback and the changing needs of Mitchell County. Built around the leadership principles of the Kansas Leadership Center, the program emphasizes that leadership is an activity, not position.

"We're excited to kick off another year and welcome Class 26," said Emily Benedick, President of Leadership Mitchell County. "Every class brings a unique mix of people, and it's always exciting to watch participants learn from one another, make new connections, and discover more about Mitchell County."

During its spring grant cycle, the Jewell County Community Foundation awarded over $38,000 to 11 projects throughout Jewell County. The following organizations received funding:

🚒Esbon Rural Fire District #3: $2,446.70 for walkaway brackets and a free-standing hanging unit

📚❤️Burr Oak Community Library: $1,430 for 2 complete AED units with wall cabinets

🏡👶Jewell County Strong, Inc: $1,312.52 for a new front for the community daycare

🚰🧰City of Esbon: $1,400 for a hydrant flow test kit

🌱🌻Post Rock Extension District: $3,500 for a garden at the Jewell County Strong Wellness Center

🛝♿City of Jewell: $5,587 for inclusive play space equipment at Maag City Park

🏊‍♀️💪Jewell County Strong Inc: $1,206.54 for aquatic therapy tools and weight room mirrors

🚒🦺Jewell County Fire District 6: $5,072 for fire equipment

🤱🏥Jewell County Health Department: $1,000 for a mobile lactation station

🎆✨Jewell County Revitalization: $7,000 for the Jewell County Skies: Sparkling with Independence celebration

🎭❄️Jewell County Cinema, Inc: $8,500 for a new HVAC for the Ute Theatre

This round of grants was made possible by two funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout the county, and the Jewell County Community Fund, which focuses on the present and future needs of Jewell County.
