We are nearing the end of winter, hopefully, and the beginning of leaves back on our trees, grass starting to green up and temperatures consistently in the 50s.
But no matter the season our Golden K Kiwanis members have an opportunity to gather weekly for camaraderie and updates from guest speakers.
Our meetings -- you are cordially invited -- are at 9 a.m. Tuesdays at the Manitowoc Senior Center, 3330 Custer Street.
Recently, we have heard updates from Abbey Quistorf from The Chamber of Manitowoc County, Jan Graunke from Hope House, Karen Bauknecht-Van Sistine from the Lakeshore Humane Society, Manitowoc City Clerk Mackenzie Reed.
One of our members, Phil Stangel, demonstrated his musical virtuosity on his four saxophones, among the many instruments he plays so capably for Lakeshore Big Band, Lakeshore Wind Ensemble, Manitowoc Symphony and others.
This Tuesday, March 10, our guest speaker will be Rhonda Green of Manitowoc County Emergency Services talking about current scams.
On March 17 we will welcome Progress Lakeshore's Jamie Zastrow and on March 24 the YMCA's Julie Grossman.
You are welcome to learn more about our “Serving the Children of the World.”
Future fundraising by us will include April's Lily Drive to benefit Easter Seals' Camp Wawbeek and summer bratfrys.
For more information, contact our current Club President Ron Krupski (920) 905-5649.

We’re in the first month of the New Year and 2026 will offer our Golden K Kiwanis members an opportunity to gather weekly for camaraderie and updates from guest speakers.
Recently, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels shared encouraging news about the economic vitality of our city, including business expansions, as well as continuing quality of life improvements with enhanced parks and more.
Another highlight was the appearance of Jason and Tina Prigge. Their physical and emotional recoveries from their devastating motorcycle accidents have been inspiring to all.
They continue to bless the Lakeshore area with their involvement with The Coolest Coast and the Manitowoc International Relations Association, including Manitowoc’s sister city relationship with Kamogawa Japan.
We look forward to the publishing of their book – Livin’ All Right -- describing their journey.
This Tuesday, January 20, our guest speaker will be Abbey Quistorf, Executive Director of The Chamber of Manitowoc County.
Following her appearance, on January 27, Hope House Director Jan Graunke will be our guest talking about the homeless shelter. On February 3, Charlie Mathews will share experiences on a recent three-week visit to Turkey and Greece.
We meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Senior Center, 3330 Custer Street. You are cordially invited to come and learn more about our “Serving the Children of the World.”
For more information, contact our current Club President Ron Krupski (920) 905-5649.

As members of Golden K Kiwanis, we know that many families in our community suffer from “food insufficiency” … or to put it simply, not having enough good and appropriate food to eat.
So, we are gratified that our members contributed out of their personal back pockets and our club’s service account $3,000 that we have been pleased to present to Manitowoc’s four food pantries at St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Grow It Forward and Peter’s Pantry.
Some 7,400 adults and children are on the Food Share program so we certainly know the need of hundreds of Lakeshore area families.
These pantries also benefit from having many dozens of dedicated volunteers helping their efforts as part of the local Hunger Coalition.
Your patronage of our brat frys and other fundraising efforts give us the ability to financially support the food pantries and other local causes and programs … thank you!
At this week’s meeting we were pleased to have Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Kiwanis Lt. Gov. “Fitz” Fitzpatrick induct our newest members – Amirah Franzen, who is the Domestic Abuse Program Coordinator at InCourage.
Everyone is invited to learn more about our Golden K by attending one of our weekly Tuesday 9 a.m. meetings at the Manitowoc Senior Center, 3330 Custer Street.
We usually have a guest speaker giving us an update from local government, the Manitowoc Public School District, a local non-profit organization, or business.
On Tuesday, December 16, we will welcome Jason and Tina Prigge talking about Manitowoc’s Sister City relationship with Kamogawa, Japan.
For more information about Golden K Kiwanis, contact our current President Ron Krupski, (920) 905-5649.

This Tuesday, December 2, we will be presenting checks totaling about $3,000 to Manitowoc’s four food pantries – Peter’s Pantry, and those at St. Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army and Grow It Forward, that serve hundreds of local families.
On December 9 we will have a speaker from Big Brothers Big Sisters. On December 16 Jason and Tina Prigge will talk about the Sister City relationship between Manitowoc and Kamogawa Japan.

Our Manitowoc Golden K Kiwanis enjoys many advantages including a supportive community and members willing to volunteer for leadership roles.
Our brat frys this year raised some $3,500 this year with proceeds going to student scholarships for deserving local high school seniors.
We raise and give away annually more thousands of dollars for Easter Seals' Camp Wawbeek and mini-grants to local non-profit organizations.
Our fall M&M Drive will be the weekend of October 24-25 and we know your support will be key to its success.
We were pleased to have our Kiwanis Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Governor Paul Shrode install our officers for the 2025-2026 club season including President Ron Krupski, Past President Joy Krejcarek, Vice President Gary Prigge, Secretary Phil Stangel and Treasurer John Jacobs.

Members of Golden K Kiwanis are delighted our Club has established a K-Kids Club at the Boys-Girls Club of Manitowoc County, 3651 Dewey Street.
The Kiwanis website informs visitors that "K-Kids is a Kiwanis Service Leadership Program for elementary school age students. More than 1,100 K-Kids Clubs are serving their communities.
"Club members improve their schools and communities — an experience that helps them develop a passion to serve, a desire to lead and the ability to engage and collaborate with others."
Golden K Kiwanis leaders met with Branch Director Connor Schultz who said our local Boys-Girls Club will start its new academic year of programming next week. Schultz was a member of Key Club in high school, another Kiwanis service leadership program for teenagers.
Boys and girls in Manitowoc will be given information about the new K-Kids Club and encouraged to participate. It is anticipated student officers will be elected in the next few weeks.
More information about the club, serving more than 130 youngsters, can be found at https://bgcmanitowoccounty.org/
Our guest speaker on Tuesday (August 26) will be Tony Pleaken, followed by Wendy Cracraft of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Jen Loyas of ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital, Greg Vadney of the Rahr-West Art Museum, and Heather Feast of the Manitowoc County Health Department.

It was a special and inspiring meeting of our Manitowoc Golden K Kiwanis this week as we presented eight $500 scholarships to outstanding local high school senior students to offer financial assistance as they continue their education in college this fall.
Our Scholarship Committe Chair Dave Estes noted the amount may not be substantial in light of the cost of college education. "It does, however, represent our acknowledgement of your exemplary current accomplishments and what we expect of you in the future."
Funds were raised from Golden K Kiwanis bratfrys and donations by individual members.
Four Lincoln High School graduating seniors were honored including Paige Endries, Sarah Salek, Elyana Reed and Annika Strazny.
Roncalli High School's Isabella Jacky was honored as were Manitowoc Lutheran High School's Logan Brooks, Greta Buege, and Addison Korte.
All eight students -- selected from a large pool of applicants -- had outstanding academic achievements in addition to participation in extracurricular activities, such as sports, National Honor Society and community volunteering.
You are cordially invited to attend any or all of our weekly programs at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Manitowoc Senior Center, 3330 Custer Street. Feel free to call (920) 242-1919 for more information about our activities and how you can get involved.
