Midwest Central FFA

Midwest Central FFA Founded in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. www.ffa.org

The Midwest Central FFA strives for success by providing students with many opportunities for leadership in our community and at the Section 12 and State level. In Kansas City's Baltimore Hotel, 33 young farmboys charted a course for the future. They could not have foreseen how the organization would grow and thrive. Since 1928, millions of agriculture students - no one knows exactly how many - ha

ve donned the official FFA jacket and championed the FFA creed. FFA has opened its doors and its arms to minorities and women, ensuring that all students could reap the benefits of agricultural education. Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Now, the organization is expanding the nation's view of "traditional" agriculture and finding new ways to infuse agriculture into the classroom.

Yesterday, we celebrated three incredible senior chapter officers as they crossed the stage and completed their high school careers.

These seniors have done so much for our program. They stayed with us through the ups and downs as we worked to rebuild our program the past few years.

Each of them possesses unique and valuable skills and qualities. We know they will go on to accomplish amazing things in the future, though we are sad to see them go.

Thank you, Lilly, Kamden, and L. We wish you great success in all your future endeavors.

Today, Miss Hof’s Animal Science class had the opportunity to spend the day at Green Prairie Animal Hospital learning what it’s really like to work in veterinary medicine!

Students were able to observe and learn about many different veterinary procedures, including:

* An ultrasound on a pregnant cow
* Checking a cow’s teeth to determine her age (she was 2 years old!)
* An ultrasound on a non-pregnant cow to see if she was ready to breed — and she was!
* Blood testing on a mule
* A necropsy on a calf, where samples from the liver and heart were collected to help determine the cause of death. Veterinarians suspect a possible cardiovascular issue and will continue testing.
* The traveling veterinary truck and how mobile vet care works

Ed was even given a hat for being such an amazing participant today!

We had such a fun and educational day learning all about the veterinary field. Thank you so much for having us!

Mr. Wood’s Ag Fabrications class has officially completed their large project of the year: an American flag firewood rack.

Students spent weeks planning, cutting, welding, grinding, assembling, and finishing the project. Every student contributed in different ways throughout the build process, helping turn raw materials into a finished piece the class can be proud of.

The firewood rack will accompany one of the custom fire pits built by last year’s class and will be featured at our Labor Auction this fall.
