GFWC-Manistique met April 8th as snowflakes were falling with hopeful thoughts of Spring. Becky Anderson introduced our meeting with a spring themed poem “Time to Rejoice”.
Michelle Guzzetta‘s presentation gave us creative inspiration to plan a garden project with what gardening can PRODUCE. Gardening can produce benefits such as; beauty in many forms, smells giving some sweet, savory, or pungent aromas. Gardens produce nectar and pollen attracting pollinators, Produce in the form of food, a sense of connection giving a calming “grounding” effects that puts a person IN THE MOMENT. They can be quite meditative and emotionally healing. Gardens are abundant with life above and below the ground and PRODUCE a place where ALL 5 SENSES can be enjoyed, Sight, Smell, Touch Sound and Taste. The next time you have a chance to sit for a moment in a PRODUCTIVE GARDEN, TAKE TIME TO TRULY ENJOY ALL IT HAS TO OFFER. There is so much remarkable life pulsating around you in the garden. Appreciate what it has to offer.
We received a MSU Extension Smart Gardening Info Sheet on how to plant and grow vegetables and a surprise bag containing starter seed pots, soil, and flower and herb seeds.
We are kicking off a new committee called FOOD SECURITY. The Manistique Community Garden is a subcommittee of this new group and until we get the Food Security team up and running; we'll use the garden page to post information.

Every month, we celebrate birthdays at the Medical Care Facility on the third Wednesday at 2:30, and before COVID, Jeanne Gunderson attended every one, leading the dancing, etc. My last memory of her before COVID was her leading the Congo line! I thought I had a picture of it. But here is a good picture of her in the striped sweater on the left in 2018.
Last month we had a record crowd of residents at the MCF and we hope many are able to attend this month too.
We hope many of our GFWC members will attend as we celebrate Jeanne's 100th birthday. The residents and their families really appreciate GFWC doing this every month.
We have purchased a special cake for the day! We are looking forward to seeing you at 2:30 next Wednesday, April 16.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Mother-Daughter Tea May 4 at 2:00. We welcome any club member's assistance. We need members to help us create our teacup charcuterie, the punch, set up, and break down. We also welcome you to attend even if you cannot help because this will be one fun event! It is neat to see the girls and moms get together for their last time as a class at our event.

We collected donations for Bay Cliff and will do so again in April. We will take both items and monetary donations. Next month, April 8, Michelle Guzzetta will be our speaker on gardening. GFWC-Manistique hosted a Birthday Party for Muriel Whitman, club member for 50+ years, in honor of her 100th Birthday in February. Club members Sherri Krause and Brenda Faulkner did the planning and purchases of cake, flowers, balloons, and a card signed by members. Janet Hickey and Sherryl Faltum led a toast to the birthday girl with a non-alcoholic bubbly in champagne flutes. Fourteen Woodland Meadows residents were part of the celebration. Muriel’s spirit of her wit and charm was impressive which is loved by the Woodland staff. We all should be so lucky at 100 years of age.

At our April 8th Club meeting we will be accepting donations of needed items for the Bay Cliff shower.
