NWCA Executive Director Michael Moyer explains there are two reasons a company should attend the World's Largest Wrestling Virtual Career Fair on October 1st:

1.) Wrestlers make great hires. They perform at a very high level in very adverse conditions.

2.) When you hire a wrestler, you are helping our sport grow. The most impactful speaking point we have when we are speaking with college presidents is that wrestling can become a gateway for bringing impressive companies in all industries onto their campuses.

UNC Head Coach Rob Koll is the absolute MASTER of the flywheel.

He does a lot of very simple, very smart things that individually are not very groundbreaking… until you realize they all feed each other.

I’ll give you two low-hanging examples.

Exhibit A:
UNC hosts a College Wrestling Combine on its campus and invites other college programs.

Most of those kids won’t end up at UNC. But they all experience UNC, build relationships with the program, and them and their parents leave with a connection to Carolina Wrestling.

Exhibit B:
UNC wrestlers go out to six local wrestling clubs for $40 mini-clinics. The kicker?

Every kid gets a free UNC Wrestling season ticket… or a $40 season ticket with a wrestling clinic thrown in, depending on how you look at it.

Either way, it’s a small genius detail.

Clinics → Relationships → Fans → Attendance → Community → Bigger Clinics → More Relationships → More Fans → More Attendance → More Community

The flywheel keeps turning and turning. None of these ideas alone are revolutionary but that’s the point. And that’s what I love about it.

Growth is rarely one giant, brilliant idea. It’s almost always a bunch of very small smart moves that feed each other and keeps pushing the same flywheel in one direction.

Do that long enough, and eventually momentum does the work for you.

Here is a stat that should get your attention‼️

57% of the Class of 2026 did NOT have a career lined up before graduation.

THAT IS NOT A TYPO… that is a statistics straight from the National Association of Colleges and Employers .

Then when you look at the rest of the numbers, the importance of getting in front of employers becomes even clearer:

✔️63% of internships convert into full-time employment.

✔️ Nearly 1 in 4 career fair attendees receive a job offer.

✔️61% of graduating seniors could see themselves working for a company after talking to their recruiters.

✔️73% of undergraduate degree holders work in careers not associated with their degrees.

You don’t have to have your entire career figured out. You just have to be willing to explore opportunities, meet employers, and get your foot in the door.

Wrestlers are built to do tough things. Landing a career shouldn’t be one of them.

Our wrestling coaches are creating better humans. Listen to Coach Metcalf here. He isn’t stressing technique or wins and losses he is stressed being a better human. The Iowa State Wrestling program wants each athlete to:

✔️Be a better person.
✔️Be selfless.
✔️Show up.
✔️Hunger for learning and improving.
✔️Serve their community.
✔️Add value to everyone around them. Always.

Wrestlers aren’t just trained to win matches. They’re trained to show up, work tirelessly, embrace discomfort, keep improving, and bring value, always.

Wrestlers are built to do tough things.

They show up. They compete. They take coaching. They handle pressure… And when things get difficult, they dig their heels in and do what needs to be done for the team.

Those are valuable traits in an employee at any level.

Being a wrestler is NOT easy.

It’s the wrestler versus one other person, with the entire arena watching. It’s clear mif they put the work in or not.

But here’s what makes wrestling unique:

A wrestler’s individual performance still directly impacts the team. People are counting on the individual to do their job so the team can win. Not performing makes it a lot tougher for the team to win.

That translates directly to the workplace. Every single team members performance matters to the organization. Employees are like cogs in a wheel and individual performance of one worker can slow down or makes things more difficult for the entire system .
