AYA is proud to welcome Isabelle Nichols .a.nichols —a cellist whose artistry is defined by depth, clarity, and an unwavering devotion to collaboration.
A co-founding and current member of the NYC-based Karuna Quartet, Isabelle has brought her musicianship to the Juilliard Fall Festival, the Juilliard Station Rush Hour Series, and the Westside Chamber Players Series.
Her earlier years with the Meraki Quartet (2016–2022) marked the beginning of her chamber music ascent, earning medals at the Fischoff Competition, the Yehudi Menuhin Chamber Music Seminar, and an appearance on NPR’s From the Top.
Across her collaborative career, Isabelle has shared the stage with extraordinary artists including Nicola Benedetti, Karen Gomyo, Andres Diaz, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, Bella Hristova, as well as members of the St. Lawrence Quartet and the Alexander String Quartet.
Her commitment to contemporary music extends further—having worked closely with composers Matthew Aucoin, Nicholas Britell, and Karim Al-Zand.
Her performances have resonated in some of the world’s most celebrated halls: Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein, the Elbphilharmonie, the Berliner Philharmonie, and Alice Tully Hall—a testament to the scope and integrity of her musical voice.
Isabelle is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at The Juilliard School under Astrid Schween, supported by the Juilliard Scholarship and the Kenneth Bohn Memorial Scholarship. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rice University with Norman Fischer as a Shepherd Society Award recipient, following formative training with Bonnie Hampton and Tanya Tomkins.
She has participated in masterclasses with artists including Emanuel Ax, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Éric-Maria Couturier, Johannes Moser, and Colin Carr, and has taken part in the New York String Orchestra Seminar (2023) and served as a Valley of the Moon Apprentice (2025).
Today, we are thrilled to have Isabelle join the AYA community—
an artist whose musicianship is not only accomplished, but deeply generous.Welcome to AYA, Isabelle.
