Originally founded as the APT New York Chapter in the mid-1980s, the organization was restructured in 2003 as the APT Northeast Chapter encompassing New England, New York State, and northern New Jersey. At present we have approximately over 110 members. As a chapter, we conduct workshops, co-sponsor events with local and statewide preservation organizations, and sponsor symposia including our annu

APTNE members and friends are invited to a special visit to Philip Johnson’s Glass House in New Canaan, CT, a National Historic Landmark and defining work of modern architecture.

This extended, 2.5-hour docent-led experience offers access to the Glass House and its surrounding landscape, including Philip Johnson’s Studio, Brick House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, Da Monsta, and a range of outdoor sculpture installations across the site.

Hosted by the team at Buffalo Architectural Casting, this hands-on event will introduce participants to plaster casting techniques inspired by historic travertine replication, while also providing a behind-the-scenes look at the role cast materials play in preserving historic architecture. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility, connect with fellow preservation professionals, and learn how traditional craftsmanship continues to evolve through modern innovation.

APTNE is pleased to announce our 2026 Student Liaisons, Elen Baez and Nour Abdulmajid!

Elen Baez Sanchez, Columbia University, is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation at Columbia University. Alongside her studies, she works as an Assistant Editor for Future Anterior and as a Preservation Lab Technician, combining research, architectural history, and hands-on conservation work.

Nour Abdulmajid, Northeastern University, is an architectural designer with a growing focus on historic preservation and existing buildings. Currently an intern at John G. Waite Associates, her work reflects a strong interest in craftsmanship, cultural memory, and the evolving stories buildings carry over time.

Guildhall’s inaugural program offers a multi-day, immersive experience exploring lime plaster, linseed oil paint, oils, stains, and other heritage coatings. The training blends expert-led demonstrations with meaningful, hands-on practice.
