A lion's hunt lasts, on average, less than a minute. It has to.

Unlike wild dogs or hyenas, lions lack the stamina for a long chase. They are explosive athletes built entirely for ambush, capable of up to 80 kilometres per hour in short bursts. Get close, close fast, and finish it quickly. If the prey escapes the first contact, the lion usually lets it go.

Buffalo, though, do not make this easy. Thick-skinned, heavy, and notoriously aggressive, they are the reason lions almost always hunt them as a group.

This is the wild, unfiltered.

The Ol Pejeta Open is just days away.

We are heading into the final stretch before we tee off at Nanyuki Sports Club on 30 and 31 May 2026, and the excitement is building.

This is more than a tournament. Every round played and every guest in attendance helps fund secondary school bursaries, improved learning infrastructure, and digital learning hubs for communities surrounding Ol Pejeta. Together, we are working towards raising KES 20,000,000 for over 250 students.

If you have been thinking about joining us, now is the time. We would love to see you on the course.

Registrations are still open and golfers, teams and guests are all welcome.

An elephant's life is defined by movement across vast distances. They follow water, food, family, and the changes of the seasons, and it turns out that movement does more than keep them alive. A new continent-wide genomic study has found that when elephants can roam freely, meet, and breed across landscapes, their populations stay genetically healthy. Cut off from one another, and the consequences show up in their DNA.

Ol Pejeta sits within one of Kenya's most important wildlife corridors, connecting the Laikipia Plateau to the wider ecosystem beyond. Our corridors give elephants safe passage to do exactly this, to move, mix, and maintain the genetic diversity they need to survive and adapt. With climate change bringing more frequent and severe droughts and floods, that freedom to move is more important than ever.

The word 'safari' comes from the Arabic for journey, a meaning that has travelled through centuries and continents to reach us here on the equator.

A visit to Ol Pejeta feels like that in the best possible way. Not a tick-list of sightings, but a genuine journey. Watch black rhino and lion go about their day with Mount Kenya rising on the horizon.

Most people come to the wild to see conservation.

ICE lets you step inside it.

Whether you choose the one-week or two-week Immersive Conservation Experience, this is your chance to work alongside the people protecting Ol Pejeta every day, from rhino monitoring and lion tracking to anti-poaching, ecological research, community outreach, conservation agriculture, and behind-the-scenes access to the chimpanzee sanctuary.

You leave with more than photos. You leave understanding what it really takes to protect a landscape like this.

One of Ol Pejeta’s resident male ostriches puts on one of nature’s most dramatic performances. By inflating his neck and producing a resonant, booming call that is remarkably similar to a lion’s roar, he signals to nearby females that he is strong, healthy, and worth their attention. Shout out to our videographer Dylan Habil for having a go at the impression himself.
