MAP - Memory Advocate Peers at CaringKind MAP is a support program that pairs persons living with early-stage Alzheimer's with a buddy We are proud to be piloting the program here in New York City.

CaringKind, the Heart of Alzheimer’s Caregiving, is pleased to bring you, MAP (Memory Advocate Peers). MAP is a support program that pairs recently diagnosed individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment or dementia and their care partner, to a mentor - a trained volunteer, who has prior experience caring for someone living with dementia. We hope to improve the post-diagnostic experience of people with dementia and their care partners through empathy, education, and empowerment. We will connect clients and their care partners to community resources, and we look to increase participation in clinical trials.

The Memory Advocate Peers (MAP) Program at CaringKind - The Heart of Alzheimer's Caregiving is a pilot program that has provided services to persons living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia and their care partner for three years now.

This program was created with the hopes of improving the post-diagnostic experience of people with Alzheimer’s or dementia and their care partner through empathy, education, and empowerment.

We share with you today that the MAP pilot program has completed the pilot phase and will begin winding down.

We are extremely proud of all that this wonderful pilot has accomplished and it has been my honor to manage this program from its’ creation until now.
We credit the amazing people that helped to design the program, our community advisory board, the MAP board, all CaringKind staff and most importantly the clients and care partners who participated in this program and the amazing mentors who provided emotional support, guidance and understanding.

Thank you to Geri Taylor (co-founder of MAP), who was our guiding light to learn how we can best help persons living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. And thank you to Jim Taylor and Sarah Walter for their vision and hearts of gold to make this program happen!

Many new friendships and bonds have been made during the time that this program ran, and we hope that this has brought a greater sense of meaning and purpose to all who participated.

You’ve come to the right place!

The MAP program pairs individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia, and their caregivers, with a compassionate and experienced volunteer/mentor, maybe YOU!

As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to give persons living with dementia and their support partners the empathy and understanding they need from someone “who has been through it” while providing valuable education on how to live well with dementia and connect them to community resources and clinical trials. Training and support to the mentor will be provided by CaringKind!
Call us on our Helpline at 646-744-2900 and ask about the MAP Mentor program or call me directly at 646-744-2937.
I look forward to hearing from you!!
