Orangutan Outreach works with partners in Borneo and Sumatra to protect orangutans in their native habitat while providing care for orphaned and displaced orangutans until they can be safely returned to the forest. 🎬 A new documentary from Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS), The Last Place on Earth, will have its world premiere at the 2026 Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood.

About The Film:

🦧 Deep in the heart of Sumatra lies the Leuser Ecosystem - 2.6 million hectares of ancient rainforest where tigers, elephants, rhinos, and orangutans still roam free. It is one of the last places on Earth where all four species coexist in the wild. And it is under threat.

🌳 Over nine years, a dedicated mostly-Indonesian crew followed an extraordinary group of wildlife activists risking everything to protect Leuser from the illegal palm oil industry. From dramatic animal rescues and high-stakes poacher arrests to the reforestation of thousands of hectares - this film is a testament to what human determination can do in the face of overwhelming odds.

Good news from the Jantho Orangutan Reintroduction Center: A baby has been born in the wild to Bulan, a rehabilitated orangutan who was released into the wild in 2018 by Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP)!

More than ten years ago, Bulan was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Aceh. She was just a young orangutan, separated from the life she should have had. After years of care, she was released back into the wild, and now, Bulan has become a mother. This is what we hope to see!

Bulan’s baby boy was named Badar and he appears to be one month old. The mother/child pair was recently spotted healthy and safe in the forest - a powerful reminder of why rescue, rehabilitation and forest protection matter. Badar’s presence symbolizes new hope for the preservation of Sumatran orangutans in their natural habitat. 🦧🌳

Little Roy was rescued by BOS Foundation and is undergoing rehabilitation at their Nyaru Menteng orangutan center. Once overweight, this sweet boy is now full of energy and gaining strength. His curiosity shows as he stays busy climbing and exploring as much as he can. 🥰
