Did you know? Prairie soils hold as much, if not more, carbon than do forests?

If you want to fight climate change the best way is to plant a prairie! Grasslands move huge amounts of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it below ground, in the form of massive root and stem networks.

The tallgrass prairie is the most imperiled ecosystem on the earth.

Why? Because of land conversion (=plowing the prairie, turning the prairie into a housing development, making new roads). Because of woody encroachment (=shrubs and trees taking root and growing in a prairie - overshadowing the grasses and growing),

A hiker yesterday witnessed a group of other visitors picking flowers and removing them from the trail.

Flowers provide nectar and pollen or our insects - we’re a preserve, which means we provide a safe place for all of our resident species.
