Did you know? Prairie soils hold as much, if not more, carbon than do forests?

If you want to fight climate change the best way is to plant a prairie! Grasslands move huge amounts of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it below ground, in the form of massive root and stem networks.

Why? Because of land conversion (=plowing the prairie, turning the prairie into a housing development, making new roads). Because of woody encroachment (=shrubs and trees taking root and growing in a prairie - overshadowing the grasses and growing),

Here’s a reminder to all of our visitors: please don’t pick the flowers!

Flowers provide nectar and pollen or our insects - we’re a preserve, which means we provide a safe place for all of our resident species.
