Since closing our physical space in 2025, we have been actively rebuilding and restructuring to better align with the current political and legal landscape. Despite these changes, our commitment remains unchanged—we aim to continue supporting q***r and trans youth and young adults in our community.

At the moment, we are working to launch a dedicated Therapy and Gender-Affirming Care Fund. This initiative is designed to provide accessible, affirming mental health support and care services for q***r and trans* youth and young adults who may otherwise face financial barriers.

As the legal landscape continues to evolve, we are carefully finalizing the structure of this fund to ensure it is both compliant and sustainable. Our goal is simple: to create a reliable source of support that centers dignity, safety, and well-being. If you are interested in supporting us through this process you can donate to our Grow Green campaign all day April 22nd through the link in our bio.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a noticeable decline in participation at our physical location. While the need for support remains strong, it's become clear that a fixed space is no longer the most effective way to reach and serve LGBTQ+ youth in Manhattan.

As a result, the True Colors Board of Directors has made the decision to close our physical space and transition to an all-volunteer run model. We are hoping this will allow us to become a more flexible and financially sustainable community resource.
Here’s what this next chapter looks like:

- Educational and community resource gathering to support LGBTQ+ youth directly and sustainably
- Pop-up events and community-based programming that meet youth in schools, neighborhoods, and partner organizations
- Stronger collaboration with local groups to expand our reach and deepen our impact

Though our structure is changing, our commitment remains the same: to affirm, uplift, and advocate for LGBTQ+ youth across Manhattan and beyond.
Your support has made it possible for us to serve hundreds of young people and families over the past three years, and we are deeply grateful. Thank you for believing in our mission, and for continuing to be a part of the True Colors family.

Our last day of operations in our physical space will be Friday, October 17th, and we will be hosting a community drop-in event from 5-8pm for youth, alumni, volunteers and supporters to say goodbye. We will have a bonfire (of course!), food and opportunities to share memories. We hope to see you all there to honor and celebrate the house and staff one last time. Please RSVP below so we have food for everyone!

Starting Monday, August 25th True Colors will offer programming for both high school students and young adults up to 24 years old.

During drop-in hours, the house will be open for youth and young adults to access the community space, shop the clothing closet, and work with staff to get referrals to additional support resources.

Additionally, we have set aside time to host affinity groups, for youth and young adults to discuss topics that matter most to them and share their stories/experiences.

True Colors is excited to announce a restructuring in the way we are offering services to our community. We are in the process of working with local partners to develop programming aimed at addressing an increase in community needs. As a part of this restructuring, we will be expanding our programing to include youth up to 24 years old.

Over the next two weeks we will be taking time to continue to meet with local partners, developing programming and preparing to open our doors to serve a new population of young adults.

During this time the house will not be open for drop-in hours as we prepare to open our doors in this new capacity August 25th.

We’re coming together—because what’s happening isn’t right.

Programs are vanishing. Positions are being cut. Our centers are being closed. The systems we fought to build—for communities of color, LGBTQ folks, immigrants, Indigenous people, youth, elders, under-employed, and unsheltered neighbors—are being gutted by federal and state policy-makers who do not care if we survive.

We are angry. And you probably are too.
We see you. Your grief. Your rage. Your fatigue. Your fight.

"Filling the Void" is a space to gather, grieve, and organize.
Let’s channel our frustration into collective power.
Let’s strategize how to support each other when the systems won’t.
Let’s talk about building resources, rooted in care and survival.

📣 We’re calling on community members, nonprofit workers, organizers, elders, youth, and anyone who refuses to give up on us.

Show up. Speak out. And let's work together.
Because no one is coming to save us—so we’re saving each other.
