💜 Fueling Wildcats—and Nourishing Neighbors!

At K-State’s Performance Table, managed by Sodexo, quality meals help student-athletes perform their best and support their health and well-being. When there’s surplus food, that nourishment goes further through a partnership with Flint Hills Food Recovery!

Together, we’re creating a community “performance table”—sharing good food with neighbors and continuing that same commitment to health and well-being. 🍽️

Thank you, K-State and Sodexo, for helping us save food, reduce waste, and nourish our community! 💜

Each Kitchen Restore "kitchen starter kit" consists of two large boxes filled with basic kitchenwares for local households in need. What goes into those boxes? Take a look at the list in this photo. Every kit contains one or more of each item on this list- but only the items on the list. These are the kitchen items we accept to keep all kits the same. So, when planning a donation to Kitchen Restore, check the list first. Be sure that what you'd like to donate is something we can use. Donations are accepted at the Riley County Extension Office, Courthouse Annex 2nd floor, M-Th 8-5, F 8-12. Thanks for your support!

Love seeing the Blessing Boxes (a program overseen by the volunteers & the Food and Farm Council) utilized by everyone in our community!

Partnerships and sharing community resources helps us all work towards a nourished community. Thank you Greater Manhattan Community Foundation team for all the work you do, and this time specifically for taking the time to help distribute resources to 23 Blessing Boxes.

Being a city or county appointed member of the Food & Farm Council means more than showing up once a month for a Council meeting.

Our members quietly show up and serve in copious amounts of ways that support our mission to improve food access and security, decrease food waste and support local farms and food businesses — all to support healthy living in our community.
Here are a few of the ways our members show up:
-the careers we choose
-being in the room for conversations involving feeding our community
-the way we volunteer our time
-the funds we donate or fundraise
-the partnerships we help nourish and support
-the time working on Nourish Together programs and doing the behind the scenes work
-our skills and expertise we share
-communicating- even when it's hard
-public speaking and helping lobby for better food access in Kansas!

If you'd like to know more about ways to be involved, we'd love to welcome you!

🍻🦁 Reflecting on a great night at the zoo—and more good food to share!

The fun at Sunset Brew at the Zoo didn’t end when the event wrapped up! Our Flint Hills Food Recovery volunteers loaded up surplus food and delivered approximately 400 lbs of taco bar goodies, fresh fruit bowls, and much more to FIVE community partner organizations to help feed our neighbors.

🚗💚 Comments like "This is amazing" to "Oh, our guests will LOVE this!" were common at each stop.

📸 These photos show a tiny portion of what partnership makes possible: good food, less waste, and more neighbors nourished!

Big thanks to Sunset Zoo , our wonderful volunteers, and our recipient partners for keeping the goodness going! 🙌

At Kitchen Restore, our generous supporters donate boxes of gently-used kitchenwares. LOTS of boxes! Our goal to keep kitchen items out of the landfill extends to the boxes, too. After our volunteers sort the donations, other volunteers take the cardboard to the recycling center. Many thanks to all who help us complete the circle-- the generous donors who provide kitchen items by the boxful and our volunteers who sort and pack our kits and recycle the materials we cannot use. Kitchen Restore donations are accepted at the Riley County Extension Office, Courthouse Annex 2nd floor, M-Th 8-5, F 8-12. For a list of the items we need, see https://www.nourishtogether.org/programs/kitchen-restore

🛒 For $59, I came away with several bags of food and essentials to share with neighbors.
Want to stock a box when you can? Check the Food and More Resource to find Blessing Box locations, https://www.nourishtogether.org/programs/blessing-boxes then pick up a few extra items on your next shopping trip. Every contribution helps, and making it a routine helps even more.
A big shout-out to Manhattan Hy-Vee for supporting the Food and Farm Council as we stock the boxes! 💚 Hy-Vee

As Hunger Free Action Month comes to a close, Mayor Adamchak, Food and Farm Council member, Adrian stocked a few Blessing Boxes around our community.

The need for food is rising, and these boxes work best when neighbors help keep them stocked. Could you make it a routine to add a few shelf-stable foods when you shop? Want to create a shelf stable food drive and stock boxes? Small, steady acts of care can make a difference for a neighbor who needs them.

Take what you need. Leave what you can. 💚

Kitchen Restore needs dry measuring cups for our kitchen kits. If you have an extra set tucked away in a cabinet or drawer- or a new set you'd be kind enough to donate- we'd love to put it to good use. Your unused kitchenwares can become someone else's essential tools! Kitchen Restore is a community donation project of the Food and Farm Council where volunteers recycle gently-used or new kitchen items into "kitchen starter kits" for local households in need. Donations are accepted at the Riley County Extension Office, Courthouse Annex 2nd floor, M-Th 8-5, F 8-12. For a list of the other kitchen items we can accept, see: https://www.nourishtogether.org/programs/kitchen-restore

September is Hunger Action Month in Kansas!🥕🍉🍽

Governor Laura Kelly recently signed the official proclamation developed by the Governor’s Council on Wellness Nutrition Committee and state partners. "As chair of this committee, it's a great means to help connect our local work with efforts to improve food access across Kansas", said Vickie James, Nourish Together Coordinator. The proclamation raises awareness of food insecurity and recognizes the many partners across the state working toward solutions—including Harvesters, Kansas Food Bank and Second Harvest Community Food Bank. Here in Riley County and Manhattan, this work happens every day through local food pantries, a community nightly meal program, Common Table, Blessing Boxes, Flint Hills Food Recovery, Healthy Food Rx and many other community efforts too many to name!

During Hunger Action Month, we challenge everyone to help where you can:
🧡 Add shelf stable food to a neighborhood Blessing Box
🧡 Volunteer with local pantries, Common Table nightly meals or Flint Hills Food Recovery 🧡 Donate food or financial support to a hunger-relief organization
🧡 Learn more, share information and speak up for solutions that improve access to nutritious food Every action—large or small—helps create a community where everyone has access to the food they need to thrive.
