Much more than just the ‘Ecoboard label’ found on boards from the world’s best surf brands, the Ecoboard Project educates and engages individuals about the environmental impacts of their lifestyle through the lens of their surfboard.

Big news from our team! 🌊 We’re evolving.

With our nonprofit officially shifting its name from Sustainable Surf to Seatrees, we’re also giving the Sustainable Surf accounts a new focus.

From here on out, those accounts will become the home of The Ecoboard Project — the leading global standard for sustainable surfboards. And there’s an exciting update: every Ecoboard shaped will now plant Seatrees 🌱🌊

That means every board built to this standard doesn’t just reduce its environmental impact — it actively restores coastal ecosystems like mangroves, kelp, seagrass, and coral reefs.

This change lets us spotlight Ecoboards and the incredible brands and shapers building them, while Seatrees continues to grow as a nonprofit fully dedicated to ocean restoration.

👉 Keep an eye out for updates as the account names shift — soon, everything will live under The Ecoboard Project.

Extending big congratulations to for winning in three categories in this year’s which is the largest and most comprehensive award recognizing the greatest change-makers from around the globe.
FlamaCircular competed among 2,300 proposals from 44 countries around the world, winning in three categories:
- Partnership or collaboration: Gold Anthem Winner
- Special projects: Bronze Anthem Winner
- Education or literacy program or platform: Bronze Anthem Winner

FlamaCircular is a project conceived by wooden surfboard pioneer Sergi Galanó, founder of FlamaSurf and the first European label to obtain the Gold Level Ecoboard certification.

In the words of ECOBOARD Project manager …

When I first saw the IG post on proclaiming “The first wave EVER ridden on a surfboard made of leaves happened today, October 14th, 2024, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on Lake Michigan!” I was both elated and, to be honest, a little apprehensive about the truth behind this bold claim. After chatting more over a virtual meeting, that apprehension subsided, but I still have plenty of questions and I’m sure our followers do too. That said, let’s jump into it!

We are still buzzing after this past weekend’s in Del Mar and wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks to our ECOBOARD partners for generously offering up their time, knowledge and equipment in our booth. On display we had which turned heads with their innovative tech blending performance with a huge reduction in waste and toxicity and the option for shapers anywhere to be able to combine their designs with the process.

x announced their partnership which is going to provide a greener option to the traditional PU blank made with recycled packaging waste and a 73% reduction in Co2 emissions and was kind enough to whip up a stylish mid twin for us to display.

& were on hand and showcased a variety of their new agave blanks along with a few shapes from , and which were turning heads.

The wooden board revolution is looking strong with unveiling their gorgeous performance focused boards and .surf which is fusing 3D printing tech with traditional wood construction.

Last but not least, the unofficial upcycling master .byry brought a few eye-catching sleds which didn’t disappoint.

Big high five goes out to Scott Bass for all your hard work bringing this amazing community together and congratulations to the Bob McTavish “Icons of foam” winner Michael Arenal for taking top honors in the shape off!

Already looking forward to next year.

We are excited to announce the results of the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) we conducted with .io and and it’s pretty darn exciting.

The data came back showing Polyola’s recycled content formula has a 73% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to a traditional PU (Polyurethane foam blank). Not to mention they have now partnered with to be able to spread the stoke to a much wider audience!
