As you prepare for Advent and Christmas, if you have gently used Christmas decorations that you no longer need please consider whether a family in need might enjoy them. We are collecting and distributing from the Parish Social Ministry Office at St. Mary's. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11-3.

Christmas Hope Delivered by SVDP

As we prepare for Advent and Christmas, we wanted to share a beautiful story from our Society of St. Vincent de Paul ministry.

Our parish conference received a request for an artificial Christmas tree and decorations. The requesting family had been homeless and recently settled into a new place. The single mother hoped to give her children a traditional Christmas, but they had no money to spare for decorations due to their circumstances. They posted on social media to explain the need and requested donations of any extra decorations our community could spare.

Our team received the Christmas tree, along with lights, ornaments, dolls and wreaths. They delivered the beautiful decorations to the family in need. There were tears of happiness from the mom and expressions of pure joy from the kids. Our SVDP conference, as well as the neighbor in need, were overwhelmed by the generosity of our community!

They do have other families in need. As you begin to decorate your homes later this month, please contact [email protected] to arrange a drop off or you can simply bring the items directly to the Office of Parish Social Ministry. The hours of operation are M/W/Th from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Your excess decorations will brighten the Christmas season for a needy family. Please consider donating. Thank you for your support!

On the Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul September 27th, our conference thanks St Mary's parish for its continuing support. We thank Father Bob for allowing us to address parishioners after masses this weekend, Father Jude for his spiritual guidance, and all who walked this weekend at the 63 conferences around Long Island to raise awareness of poverty in our communities. We help with food, rent, clothing, and more thanks to your generosity. You can still donate by check payable to St. Vincent de Paul Society in a blue envelope in St. Mary's Church vestibules, at the Parish Office, or online - select "Team Manhasset"

In the past year, thanks to your generosity, our conference helped pay $11,800 in rent and $11,500 in utility bills, furniture, clothing, mattresses, food gift cards, and other emergency bills. Thank you St Mary’s parishioners!

Wow! We are simply in awe of the generosity of the 20+ Conferences that participated in our inaugural Communion Closet event. To date, we have collected 166 dresses, 66 suits and 17 blazers.

All of these items will be utilized next spring, as we help families in need by hosting our first ever “selection spree” shopping event for children making their First Communion.
