There are so many ways to Love Our Waterways! 🌊💙

Across Louisiana, volunteers and communities are taking action to protect the waterways that make our state so special. You can be part of it by cleaning up shorelines, collecting litter by boat, spreading the word or supporting the effort.

However you choose to get involved, every action helps keep litter out of Louisiana’s waterways.

💧💙 SEPTEMBER IS LOVE OUR WATERWAYS MONTH IN JEFFERSON PARISH! 💙💧

The Jefferson Parish Council has officially declared September 2026 as Love Our Waterways Month, joining the inaugural statewide Love Our Waterways initiative led by Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

Jefferson Parish is surrounded by lakes, rivers, bayous, canals, wetlands, and coastal waterways that are an important part of our community, economy, wildlife, recreation, and way of life.

Unfortunately, litter from our streets and neighborhoods can enter storm drains and eventually make its way into our waterways, where it can harm wildlife, damage natural habitats, obstruct drainage, and contribute to localized flooding.

🌊 This September, you can help Love Our Waterways:
• Properly dispose of trash and recycling
• Keep litter, grass clippings, and yard debris out of storm drains
• Secure all waste
• Report illegal dumping
• Participate in a community cleanup
• Encourage others to help keep Jefferson Parish clean

Remember — what happens on our streets can end up in our waterways.

Please visit LoveLaWaterways.org to register a cleanup event, or volunteer for one.

Let's Work Together for Litter-Free Waterways and Spotless Shores.
Together, we can prevent litter, protect our natural resources, and show some love for the waterways that make Jefferson Parish such a special place to live, work, and play. đź’™

Yesterday, I stopped by the Jefferson Parish Council meeting to share a little about the current litter efforts we're working on across the state, including the 855-LA-LITTER hotline, our new Sponsor a Highway program, and of course Love Our Waterways Month!

The council officially voted to declare September 2026 Love Our Waterways month in Jefferson Parish, and we are so excited to work with them all month long to keep our beloved waterways clean and beautiful. We're so appreciative for the councilmembers for all of their support and enthusiam for this initiative! Thank you to Council Chairwoman Jennfier Van Vrancken for introducing me, and to Councilman Tim Kerner for inviting me to speak.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful was proud to host a delegation from China participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.

We shared the work and progress in Louisiana and learned how they manage their solid waste and no burn and recycling programs.

Would you join a cleanup in your community? According to the Keep America Beautiful National Litter Study, 84% of people say they want to participate in a community cleanup or beautification effort.

That willingness matters. With billions of pieces of litter still found across U.S. roadways, waterways and coastal areas, turning intention into action can make a meaningful difference.

This September, Love Our Waterways gives you the opportunity to do just that. Join a cleanup in your community and help remove litter from our waterways, shorelines, drains and ditches while protecting the places that make Louisiana special.
