OMHA is a nonprofit, 501c3 corporation founded to preserve and promote the history and cultural heritage of Old Mandeville.

The Old Mandeville Historic Association (OMHA) is a nonprofit, 501c3 corporation founded to preserve and promote the history and cultural heritage of Old Mandeville for future generations. Pure and simple, we love our hometown of Mandeville and believe it is worth preserving! This desire to preserve has become even more apparent since the storms of 2005. We work to preserve history in our museum, the Lang House (605 Carroll Street). We show off our community at our annual Mothers' Day home tour and other events. And we work to promote appreciation of our cultural and architectural heritage through the identification of historical structures via our site plaques.

October is Doodlebug Month at the 1850 Lang House!
Did you know that Old Mandeville had its own Trolley Car back in the day? It was operated by the Saint Tammany & New Orleans Railway & Ferry Company.

The Electric Trolley operated between 1908 & 1918, transporting passengers from the Mandeville waterfront all the way to Covington, stopping at Abita Springs on the way.
Locals called it the “Doodlebug.”
Stop by the Lang House Museum (605 Carroll Street) in October for a FREE tour and learn more about this little-known relic of our past. Our knowledgeable docents will be on hand to provide historical context and fun facts. The Lang House Museum is open Thursdays and Fridays 10-4 and Saturdays 10-1.

October is Doodlebug Month at the Lang House Museum! OMHA will be offering our 2026 Christmas ornament the “Doodlebug” created by artist and member Richard Adamiak.

Doodlebug was the nickname given to the motorcar that collected passengers on the Mandeville Lakefront and carried them to Abita Springs and Covington. This service began in 1909 and, by 1918, the St Tammany and New Orleans Railways and Ferry Company was in liquidation. Our only surviving landmark from this effort is a cottage located at 125 Coffee Street. It was built as a residence once tucked inside of the massive car barn as revealed on early Sanborn Fire Insurance maps and noted on the site plaque.
Come by the Lang House (605 Carroll Street) in October to learn more about the Doodlebug and snag your Christmas ornaments before they sell out! The Lang House Museum and Gift Shop is open Thursdays and Fridays 10-4 and Saturdays 10-1. Ornaments are $12 each, or $10 each if you buy more than one. (Ornaments make great gifts!)

Last Friday OMHA president Nancy Clark welcomed two buses of visitors to Old Mandeville as part of The Historic New Orleans Collection’s Antiques Forum North Shore Excursion. They toured two homes in Mandeville before heading on to Thornthistle and then Covington.
