OMHA is a nonprofit, 501c3 corporation founded to preserve and promote the history and cultural heritage of Old Mandeville.

The Old Mandeville Historic Association (OMHA) is a nonprofit, 501c3 corporation founded to preserve and promote the history and cultural heritage of Old Mandeville for future generations. Pure and simple, we love our hometown of Mandeville and believe it is worth preserving! This desire to preserve has become even more apparent since the storms of 2005. We work to preserve history in our museum,

the Lang House (605 Carroll Street). We show off our community at our annual Mothers' Day home tour and other events. And we work to promote appreciation of our cultural and architectural heritage through the identification of historical structures via our site plaques.

Last Friday OMHA president Nancy Clark welcomed two buses of visitors to Old Mandeville as part of The Historic New Orleans Collection’s Antiques Forum North Shore Excursion. They toured two homes in Mandeville before heading on to Thornthistle and then Covington.

Another Lakeshore site plaque!
This one, the David House, was built circa 1906 as a wedding present for Lula, Charles’ new wife. For the next 120 years the David family enjoyed long tenure here.
Recently sold, the house has gone through extensive interior remodeling and an addition.

A picture of the plaque featured earlier this week, installed with the property included in the picture.

This plaque is our twentieth plaque along Lakeshore! The earliest dates along our lakefront are the relocated Justine, circa 1786; and the one known construction prior to the settlement of Mandeville: the Edwards-Hanisee-Khoury House, circa 1825.
The most recent construction date of 1933 belongs to the John Ernest Prieto House. It is the lone survivor of 4 cottages built at this time for his children.
And there is so much history in-between.

Pick up one of our site plaque books to read more about these homes and others in Old Mandeville. Available at the Lang House Museum gift shop, open Thursdays and Fridays 10-4 and Saturdays 10-1, 605 Carroll Street.

OMHA’s newest historic site plaque will be installed soon on a major, recently completed renovation on Lakeshore. Constructed on the site of the 1870s Borey House that burned, this 1925 Craftsman has been brought back from the brink. Now a young family will call it home. 🩷

OMHA’s historic site plaque program continues to grow. Our two publications: “Historic Site Plaque Locations, volumes 1 and 2” represent 130 plaques. Since the last publication, 14 more plaques have been ordered. As you explore Old Mandeville, check them out and consider purchasing the volumes to learn more detail. These are available in the Lang House Museum gift shop and on our website. Stay tuned for volume 3!
