Working on staying if and holding the ground. The better you can hold the ground the more force you can create. Great drill and you can see on his face how hard he is working.

Learning how to use the ground to create force. You can see 1-2 reps of this and your body is smoked.

Hump day hustling!
Love this drill for guys falling off and getting “rotational” think carousel….
You need all the force and momentum going down the mound, think Ferris wheel……This starts with posture and head control. The goal of this drill is to keep his head even on the taped mirror. The more your head moves off the centerline your velocity will decrease and your risk of injury increases.

Question: Anyone know why it’s more physically taxing for a pitcher to throw off a mound vs flat ground?

Answer: the extra forces created by a mound do not affect a pitchers accelerator muscles and connective tissue. Rather, these forces affect a pitchers decekeator muscles and connective tissue.

Simply put:
the higher/steeper the mound the harder a pitcher’s arm can throw. On the other hand, the harder it is for him to slow his arm down.

Fun fact:
One of the reasons Japanese pitchers have traditionally been able to handle high pitch totals is because their “professional level” mounds are almost flat. Furthermore there are no mounds at all at their amateur level.

Hump day Hustling Tip:

Kids chronological age (the number) could differ from your neurologic age. You should train based on your neurologic age, and your pitch limits are based on your neurologic age not your number age.

You are 6 months younger neurologically than your chronological age. Also, for every inch and/or 5lbs you gain in height you lose 2 months of neurological age.

Practical application:
A 10 year old (chronologically) that just grew 3 inches and put on 10lbs in the past year is closer to a 9 year old neurologically than a 10 year old.

——Age 8-13= nerve window for patterning
——Age 13-19= muscle window for training
——Age 20-32= skill window for integration
——Age 33-45= skill retention /repatterning

Side note: be patient if you are older and trying to get recruited!
If you don’t commit as a sophomore it’s not the end of the world.. you still have plenty of time to get better!
