Meet our board president, Tami Graham! She and Lizzy Scully started the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund and our dearly departed Armida was her life-partner when she passed.

Tami has spent her career working with and for nonprofit organizations, including KSUT Public Radio, where she has been the executive director since 2015. She had a successful nonprofit consulting practice from 2001-2015, and is a professional mediator and facilitator. Graham was awarded Woman of the Year at Fort Lewis College in 1996 for her work at the helm of KDUR Community Radio. She served for 6 years as an appointee of Governor Polis to the Colorado Creative Industries board. She is a fifth-generation Coloradoan and lives just north of Mancos, Colorado. She spends her time adventuring in the mountains, rivers, and deserts throughout the Four Corners region and has summited over 45 of Colorado's 14,000-foot+ peaks. Tami's life-partner was Armida Huerta, and she currently serves as the co-founder and President of the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund.

We're starting a little feature this spring to introduce the board of the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund.

Our first introduction is Colette “Hari Karan”. She immigrated to USA in 2013 from Trinidad & Tobago. and is a 2nd Generation Yogi and a direct descendant of the indigenous Carib and Arawak tribes of the West Indies. She happily resides in the Mancos Valley of Southwest Colorado, and is passionate about helping people achieve a happy and healthy balance in life which goes hand in hand with helping the underserved communities have access to outdoor activities. Grateful to have been a recipient of one of the scholarships awarded in 2025, she is excited to now be a part of helping to realize the full potential of the Armida Huerta Fund. If you see her around, say hello and ask her about what the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund is doing

In 2025, the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund (AHAF) became it's own 501c3 nonprofit organization. (Thank you Mancos Valley Resources for being our fiduciary and helping us get launched!) We also sent 14 folks on great adventures, hired a part time administrator, and built a fabulous board of directors!

On Sunday, March 1, we are hosting a special night with Rachel Garlin and friends at the Durango Arts Center to raise funds for AHAF. Please join us and help us grow even more in 2026. Our goal is to double the number of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC people we can send on life changing adventures.

Happy Pride Month! Check out the cool things our partners are doing! We provided two scholarships for women attending this Alaska-based expedition course: https://alpackaraft.com/blog/packrafting-access-for-all

We're super stoked to be partnering with Alpacka Raft Four Corners Guides Packrafting & LGBTQ Outdoors ambassador Justin Bickley of Alaska Packraft School for our Fall backpacking-packrafting course!

🌈

“Access” holds deep significance for both the packrafting and LGBTQ+ communities. For packrafters, it’s about breaking barriers to remote wild spaces. For LGBTQ+ individuals, it’s about gaining equal opportunities, rights, and acceptance. This trip explored these parallels while fostering sk...
