Check out these blooms! 🌼
The pollinator garden at Kingwood Arms is showing off its colors!
All that rain and the couple days of sunshine helped this garden take off!
The black-eyed susans and joe-pye weeds have gotten huge, and the garden phlox is starting to bloom bright pink!
The milkweed bloomed much earlier than the rest, but there were still a couple of it's bright orange flowers showing off.
The 'bird planted' sunflowers towards the back are doing great as well, hopefully later this season the birds will be rewarded with a good harvest! 😂

This month at Kingwood Arms, we dove into a few fun facts about rocks!🪨
Specifically, we focused on limestone, sandstone, and what I like to call "backyard treasures." From geodes to fossils, there is much to be uncovered in Tennessee. Club members got to learn about how all of these stones and 'treasures' came to be.
They also helped me test an activity I'll be doing with another group next week - salt dough fossils! Getting messy and having fun is for everyone, and I greatly appreciated this group's participation. 😃

Another fun Hands-On Science Center Homeschool Science session!
Last week, we covered soil and water conservation - everything from why it matters to some of the many ways we can protect these resources. 🪱💧
I quizzed these future conservationists during the lesson to see if they could spot soil and water conservation practices on farms. Then, they put their knowledge to the test by designing their own stream system, showing the differences between a healthy stream and one that could really use some conservation help.
These students impress me every time with their enthusiasm and creativity!

Just a quick picture of some of the students that participated in the poster contest at CSES! I appreciate their hard work and hope to see more posters entered! 🎨🪱
If you would like your student to participate, the contest is open to grades K-12. Feel free to stop by our office for an information packet or visit www.nacdnet.org/contests for more information and rules. Turn in finished posters and permission sheets to the office by September 30th for a chance to win a prize basket!

The Nature and Wildlife Club at Kingwood Arms has planted their plot at the community garden. Everything from herbs to peppers to tomatoes, cucumbers, and flowers! 🫑🌻
I'd like to give a special shout-out to Benny and Thomas for not being afraid to get dirty, all of the transplant starters were planted by them - and they did a beautiful job!
Hopefully mother nature is good to us this year and we will have plenty of fresh produce to share. 🍅

The students at College Street Elementary have been hard at work on their NACD stewardship posters! The theme this year is “Soil. Where it all Begins”. I’ll be picking up the finished products this afternoon, I can’t wait to see how they’ve turned out! 🪱

Another Farm City Day?!
We had the pleasure of joining in on the fun at Franklin County's Farm City Day. We brought our nature view tunnel, full of all sorts of squirmy, jumpy, and flying critters that the kindergarteners got to explore. 🐍🪲🪰
Would you crawl through the tunnel? 🕸️🕷️

Farm City Day was a blast!
Our booth was all about the soil. Every kid (or adult) that visited us got to create a Soil Buddy to take home!
These Soil Buddies are here to remind us that, just like animals, soil needs to be taken care of. Soil grows a lot of the food we eat everyday, it's home to important microorganisms, and it even helps filter water! Together, we can help protect our soils through conservation efforts so that future generations can benefit from them as well. 🪱

With spring in full swing, I got to spend extra time this month at Kingwood Arms!
A little rain can’t stop the members of nature club. Even with the storms early yesterday morning, the group got their hands dirty, giving their pollinator garden a refresh.
Now with a fresh layer of mulch, some labels, and 2 new Eastern Bluestars, this garden is ready for some pollinators. I can’t wait to see the garden in full bloom! 🐝🦋
