June 20th is World Refugee Day and a great time to celebrate the people, cultures, and connections that help make our communities stronger.

At BCNH, we see every day how belonging grows through relationships, support, shared experiences, and the opportunity to contribute. This month, we’re looking forward to sharing more stories, wins, and moments that reflect the strength and vibrancy of the communities we serve.

Thanks for being part of it!

Time for another Monday Minute! This week at BCNH we're watching SB625 at the State House which has brought back the language from HB1706 to close the state refugee program. We're gearing up for Pizza Night at Orchard Hill Breadworks on Tuesday, and preparing for NH Gives on June 9-10.

People often "what does BCNH do?", and the short answer is this:

We help people build connected lives in New Hampshire.

That work can include support around English and citizenship, school connection, community-building, health and safety navigation, and employment pathways. At the center of all of it is trust, language access, and helping people move forward with confidence.

Swipe through for a look at some of the ways BCNH supports individuals and families in our communities.

✨Staff Spotlight ✨

The heart of BCNH is our people.

Today we’re spotlighting a member of our team whose work spans across the entire organization. Vijay does it all, from helping a client navigate a new system, connecting our case management staff to new resources, building reports for our grantors, and so much more.

Meet BCNH's Deputy Director, Vijay Bhujel!

Vijay is originally from Bhutan. He spent 22 years in Jhapa Refugee Camp, Nepal, awaiting resettlement before coming to the United States in 2012. He was trained in Nepal and India as a math and physics teacher. Upon arrival in New Hampshire, he worked at Wal-Mart and as a substitute teacher in the Concord School District. He also joined the board of directors of BCNH, when it was still known as the Bhutanese Community of New Hampshire, and served two terms from 2012 through 2016. He joined the staff at Ascentria Care Alliance, a refugee resettlement agency in Concord, in 2013, and has served there as a community health worker, case manager, and team manager.

When asked about his favorite part of his job, Vijay responded, "I'm connected to purpose, representation, and giving others the support I once needed."

We are proud to be a team shaped by lived experience, language, and deep community connection and lucky to have Vijay at BCNH.

This week I'll be spending a lot of time up in Concord talking strategic planning, meeting with Mayor Byron Champlin, and attending the New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility annual conference.
