Some of the additional hazards that our members face routinely and don’t get the same headlines as a 3rd alarm fire, vehicle extrication, or technical rescue. Our Firefighters are always looking out for situations that could pose a safety or health concern to the public and mitigating it to reduce risk.

At today's fire at the Families in Transition building at 370 Amherst Street firefighters and AMR medics had to walk around with secure containers to pick up multiple needles in the hallways of the building and on the sidewalks surrounding it.

A dangerous situation considering there are young children living in the building.

Please consider supporting Bradley Hardie as he prepares to ride his bicycle 343 miles from Boston to New York City this September.

Bradley is raising money to support firefighters battling occupational cancer and mental health challenges while also honoring his friend and fellow firefighter, FDNY Rescue 1 Firefighter Aaron Clark, who passed away last year from occupational cancer.

Bradley and Aaron attended the FDNY Proby School together in 2008. Aaron was also a United States Marine Corps veteran and a dedicated advocate for firefighter and veteran mental health. He continued to serve his community and his country selflessly until his passing.

This ride will honor Aaron, the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, and those who continue to battle cancer and mental health challenges today.

Bradley’s goal is to raise $3,000 or more, and fundraising closes on August 7. Any donation or share would be greatly appreciated.

Donate here:

I’m participating in Ride for Resilience, a five-day memorial ride from Boston to New York City honoring the 343 firefighters lost on 9/11 and supporting first responders still living with its impact. Twenty-five years later, the need is still real. Please consider donating to support this mission...

Brothers and Sisters,
It is with deep sorrow that Manchester Firefighters Local 856 announces the passing of retired Manchester Fire Chief Andre "Andy" Parent.
Chief Parent dedicated 36 years of his life to the fire service, including 34 years in Manchester, serving with unwavering commitment, pride, and loyalty to this job and to every member who wore the badge alongside him. Rising through the ranks from firefighter to officer and ultimately, Chief Parent never lost sight of what mattered most — the men.
He was a true union firefighter at heart. No matter the rank on his collar, he never let the members feel unheard. He stood for fairness, fought for his people, and carried the weight of leadership with integrity and respect. His door was always open, his word meant something, and his presence made this department stronger.
Chief Parent's legacy is not just in the years he served, but in the culture he helped build — one of brotherhood, accountability, and pride in the job.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Parent family, his friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him.
Rest easy, Chief. We've got it from here.
In Brotherhood,
Manchester Firefighters
