Has a perfect stranger ever complimented you on your outfit? Did it bring the slightest smile to your face? Add a little spring to your step? Restored your faith in mankind…if only for a moment? Have you ever taken a split second out of YOUR day to help someone else out? Have you ever though that one completely random act of kindness has the ability to change someone’s moment, day, life? That it m
ay momentarily restore their faith and inspire them to do something special for someone else? Have you ever thought about how a simple “good morning” or a “have a nice day” can mean to someone who is having a difficult time? I have found myself to be a big offender of lacking common courtesy lately. Some examples of my own offences in just the past few days have been. 1) Hurrying by the Salvation Army bell ringer while attempting to avoid eye contact. 2) Becoming irritated at an elderly lady at the pharmacy because she was taking too long. 3) Stashing my shopping cart in front of my car so that I could avoid pushing it the extra 100 steps to its rightful place. Face it my friends…we have all done these things, similar things or much worse! Then I thought would MY day be just a little bit brighter if the man at the store didn’t pretend I wasn’t there and let the door slam in my face? If the lady with the 2 shopping carts full of stuff let me go ahead of her so that I could quickly check out with my one little item? If SOMEONE would just pause for a split second to let me out of my parking space? Of COURSE it would!! All this is just a simple case of treating people like you would like to be treated. If everyone unselfishly took no more than a minute to make one person smile every day and that person paid it forward, this world could be a better place one smile at a time. Not enough of us practice this anymore, not enough of us teach these common courtesy values to our children. In our busy lives who has time right?? Well I for one can spare a minute or two in hopes that I can help someone have a better day.
