Stamford Elementary’s Trout in the Classroom (TIC) release on June 6 was a big success! Students raised 56 brook trout and released them into the North Branch of the Hoosic River—right outside their school.
After the release, kids jumped into the stream (literally!) to explore trout habitat and collect macroinvertebrates. Big thanks to Corey Hart from VT Fish & Wildlife and our own Bonnie for guiding hands-on learning, from bug ID to fly casting.
TIC is a national program that teaches students to raise trout from eggs to release, learning about water quality, ecology, and conservation along the way. In Vermont, it’s supported by Trout Unlimited, Vermont Fish and Wildlife, Vermont Institute of Natural Science, dedicated teachers, and community volunteers.
Special thanks to Frances for leading the program and organizing a celebration for the students—and congrats to her class for raising and releasing healthy brook trout!
