Many have asked, so here you go-

11 years ago -HISTORY WAS MADE!!!

Where for the first time Protestants were invited in to host a Christmas event in the Catholic Church alongside Catholic brothers and sisters and other denominations.
How the Christmas Event came to be-
The setting of the stage for first event-
I was serving at 1269 and I was like the event coordinator for things like fine dines, Christmas events etc.
Kevin Jurovaty had an idea about a parade outside where the community came to show support. I liked the idea of the community coming together but thought “the homeless are already outdoors too much” and started to plan an indoor community event. I then met Jackie Picken (a leader in the charismatic Catholic circles) at a house of prayer where Catholics and Protestants were finding healing and unity which led to the open door of our first event being at The Cathedral of St. Joseph’s. (When we outgrew Saint Joseph’s we were at Saint Marie’s but we realized it was harder for our guests to walk to the west side so we then moved to First Baptist a more convenient walking distance).
Because I already had a following on my Facebook from serving the homeless the organizing of volunteers and the collection of items just came together.
IT’S ALL THE HAND OF GOD DOING ONLY WHAT HE CAN DO!!!

I was amazed as I reflected upon 9 wondrous years of the city wide Harmony Home annual Christmas event, that cares for the homeless and needy of Manchester N.H.

(BTW people come from not only the city but from within the state and even out of state to help.)

This event never gets old. I believe each year it gets better and better. For those unfamiliar with this cause, those needing an extra boost of encouragement around the city are notified of the date time and place of this much anticipated event. Shelters are notified as well as other beautiful caring ministries around the city.

The extraordinary thing is that the 280 shoppers will shop for FREE because of the over the top generosity within our community that involves individuals as well as ministries, churches and organizartions. The shoppers are even given a well packed meal as they leave for the day with their shopping bags overflowing.

I am taking the time to write about this event because our souls need good news more than ever. Did you realize that this kind of unity and generosity exists in the city of Manchester? Or have you only heard of the negative news?

I was contemplating what it took to build this kind of unity in our city. I am passionate about prayer and have been since I encountered God’s love and forgiveness for myself many years ago. I believe prayer was the key here and I was remembering the details of how the first event was conceived in the place of prayer and needed healing came among different church members that had gathered.

To this day there are some of us involved that were there at that original meeting 10 years ago. We followed simple steps we felt the Spirit directed us into. There were many strides along the way and there was a price to pay mostly in humbling ourselves with each other.

This Harmony Home event has been made possible as we have put our differences aside and have focused on God’s love in us and through us.

The Christmas service before the shopping spree brought me into absolute tears many times over. The music which was live throughout the time of our gathering was another level of perfection. Every single musician and singer was reaching our hearts in the deepest ways. So many tears were shed.

The young man who shared the Christmas message of hope and love threw his notes away before speaking and touched everyone in the room with his sincere and transparency about his own struggles and about how God reached him in his darkest hour. The room was filled with hope and people wanted to give God a chance.

It has been a special treat to serve with family as our brother Paul from Maryland has now joined the fun for three years in a row. Also it was joyous for me to do the toy set up with my dear sister-in- law (Her name tag says: “Henry’s wife” ) and niece and my grand nephews. I felt the joy of the generational blessing.

I had the pleasure of serving in prayer ministry with my dear friend and my brother, as the shoppers were waiting their turn. We talked and asked questions and asked if people had any needs. It was amazing how everyone participated in the conversation. All were open to share something about their lives. Some desired prayer for various concerns.

The very last shopper had lots of personal requests for his family members that he was concerned for. He was so appreciative of our prayer time together. Afterwards he so moved, that as one of our head volunteers asked for prayer for himself and his family and this shopper came along side of us and prayed and said: “Everything is going to be alright”. He kissed the man on his forehead.

I had a little extra joy finding out that this last shopper’s name was “Emmanuel” which means “God is with us”. His twin brother’s name was Angel. In the service we spoke of ministering angels being in the presence of this beautiful event just as they were involved in the birth announcement of the savior of the world.

So in the end the subject matter was “Emmanuel” and “Angel”.
