The post:
On May 19th, five Aldermen opposed a compromise budget that would have allocated an additional $1.6M to road repairs: • Crissy Kantor, Ward 6 • Ross Terrio, Ward 7 • Ed Sapienza, Ward 8 • Norm Vincent. Ward 11 • Kelly Thomas, Ward 12
Their logic? That it's too much money. Even though DPW would need $3.4M on top of that just to fully fund our FY27 paving program.
Mv constituents have made it abundantly clear - our roads suck, and they need to be fixed. That much is obvious to anyone who drives in Manchester. But the only way we fix that is if we pay for the required labor and materials. New asphalt can't be made out of hopes and dreams alone.
So if you want more roads repaved, please call or email those five Aldermen. Ask them how they plan to fix your street without funding.

Just letting everyone know I strongly dislike missing our monthly NH Tenant Union meetings and am actively trying get a new laptop to handle it all. Current laptop with its tech issues just added no working fan to the list.

I would like to have an in person meeting next month and would like to know how many people would attend if offered. Keep your eye on the page for a poll with times and days so we can try and get a day and time that work for the majority. Also will need an estimated head count to select the correct venue. Hoping to have something outdoors with a rain option to enjoy the weather we waited alllll winter for :) I will be posting on what I have been busy working on so you will still get an update.

Would love to start a monthly mailing that would come out after meeting but will need a volunteer for that. I am already at and above capacity with the changes the Tenant Clinic is in process of and do not want to promise something I can't guarantee or give 100% to, if someone would like to volunteer to put the news letter together from my emails and our meetings, I would love to hear from you :)

Current List of Volunteers Needed
[email protected]
*As stated above, NHTU Reporter/Monthly Newsletter Coordinator. Someone who enjoys or has the ability and doesn't mind lending their skills in putting our monthly newsletters together. This role could also put little stories together for the Communications volunteer, Press Releases and statements.
*Communications - I'm so busy I don't have time to post as much as I should and I am not on as many platforms as I should be to get news out to other NH renters. Do you have any ideas for reels/shorts/tik-tok?

--> “regulated conditional deposits”

Don't let the phrase fool you nor the claim that it is intended to help renters. Those most affected by our Housing Crisis caused by our lack of Very Very and Very Affordable housing options and insufficient community resources to keep people housed who are already struggling to meet the demands of the rent increases faced since the renovation eviction tsunami are the ones most affected by this.

--> "Now, Republican lawmakers and landlords are proposing a mechanism they say could help lower-income tenants: an additional security deposit."

How will those families pay that extra security deposit?
HB60 goes into effect this July, starting in July NH Landlords can chose to evict you through no cause of yours at the end of your lease and for the 6 months. It takes more than a year to recover financially and be in a position to do so again should you need to. How will someone ever save 3 months up to move in a year, possibly yearly. Luckily this bill was recently tabled (for now). It can be motioned to be brought back, updates will continue.

--> What does Tabled mean?
When a bill is "Laid on the Table" in the New Hampshire Senate, it means the Senate has voted to temporarily pause consideration of that bill. It is a procedural move to set the bill aside without immediately killing it, allowing it to be brought back for a vote at a later time during the legislative session.

For New Hampshire renters, finding an available apartment can be half the battle. Paying the upfront costs is the next hurdle.

Does your landlord tell you that you're not allowed to use an air conditioner when it's hot? An article you need to read then.

A representative for 603 Legal Aid says state law offers some protections against an apartment that's uncomfortably hot.

The fight for more housing created to meet the needs of individuals and families living in the 30% to 80% Area Median Incomes levels becomes apparent when you look at the stats together. While NHTU feels that all Housing is needed we recognize the need for what we call the Missing Housing, Housing Affordable for those at the 30-80% Area Median Income Levels.

* Most expensive to build since the return is smaller, easiest way to explain that. This means we need all hands on deck to create and sustain, city - state and federal support.

*Compared to Housing at the 100% AMI levels, the number of units in progress or built are substantially less for those at 30, 50, 60 and 80% AMI while the demonstrated need is plainly evident.

*Substantial Loss of Tenant Rights with HB60 that was passed last year, Just Cause Protections, that our state had since the 80's and I have personally seen why it was created and needed in multiple cases.

✊️ Bowen Tower Tenant Union

Members of the Bowen Tower Tenant Union celebrated a new agreement with their landlord on Thursday, and the end of their four-month-long rent strike. Tenants went on strike in October last year in response to longstanding maintenance issues that have gone ignored.

Tenants at Bowen Tower Apartments began withholding rent last October. An agreement with the California-based landlord now includes lower rent and utility rates, and commitments to fix longstanding problems in the building.
