Annually, the Virginia School Counselor Association recognizes the outstanding and exemplary work of school counselors, counselor educators, administrators, and division-level directors that support the school counseling profession. The association recognizes an individual for Elementary School Counselor of the Year, an individual for Secondary School Counselor of the Year, and an individual for the VSCA Leadership Award. These recipients will be honored during a special luncheon at the 2026 VSCA Annual Conference: Navigating the Waves of Innovation in October 2026.
Awards are given to those nominees who best exhibit the implementation of the ASCA National Model and show evidence of a comprehensive school counseling program. Specifically, the School Counselor of the Year award recognizes two outstanding professionals (elementary and secondary) who have positively impacted their school community. Contributions to the profession can be measured by using the ASCA National Model, evidence of data-driven practices, and implementing a comprehensive counseling program.
