As a nonprofit, we rely heavily on the generosity of our local business community. Whether it’s sponsoring an event, donating an auction item, or supporting our mission in countless other ways, local businesses help make our work possible.
One business that has always stepped up for Boxes of Basics is Zandra's Taqueria. Time and again, when we’ve asked for support, they’ve been there.
Now, they need us.
Following the devastating fire at their Culpeper location, Zandra’s launched a fundraiser to support the employees who suddenly found themselves facing uncertainty. These are the team members who welcomed guests, served their community, and helped make Zandra’s Culpeper such a special place over the last two years.
While we’re grateful that the fundraiser has already surpassed its original goal, there is still an opportunity to help ease the burden on employees as they navigate the challenges that come with an unexpected disaster.
And while the Culpeper location was impacted, Zandra’s continues to serve our community through its Haymarket and Manassas locations. If you’re looking for another way to support them, consider stopping in for a meal and showing them some local love.
Businesses like Zandra’s consistently invest in nonprofits, schools, sports teams, and community causes. Let’s return that support when they need it most.

Today has been an incredibly difficult day for the Zandra’s
Early this morning, a fire caused catastrophic damage to our building in Culpeper . While the restaurant is a total loss, we are grateful beyond words that no one was injured and that everyone appears to be safe.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to the Culpeper Fire Department, emergency responders, law enforcement, and all of the agencies that responded. Their professionalism, courage, and tireless efforts helped contain a very difficult situation, and we are incredibly thankful for everything they did.
We also want to thank the Culpeper community for the support you have shown us over the past two years. Since opening our doors, we have been welcomed with open arms, and today the calls, messages, and words of encouragement from so many people have meant more than we can express.
Right now, our focus is on supporting our team members and their families as we work through what comes next. We do not yet know what the future holds, and there are many questions that still need to be answered.
While today is heartbreaking, we are thankful that everyone is safe. We will take this one step at a time, and we will share updates as they become available.
Thank you, Culpeper, for your support, your prayers, and your kindness.
