Today, President Andrew Mills and Guardsman Greg Hall of the Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR took part in the Vigil at the Tomb at Mount Vernon alongside Paul Christensen of the Colonel James Woods II Chapter and fifty other National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution members. The members of the Tomb Guard took 15 minute shifts to stand vigil at the Tomb of George Washington. All three Virginians stood proud representing the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution at this event. Pictured are President Mills and Guardsman Hall.

It was a busy weekend for the Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR as Guardsman Greg Hall represented the Chapter at the Color Guard Muster in Berryville and then followed it up with the Commemoration of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday. For Sunday, Color Guard Commander Jon Huddleston represented the Chapter as Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter-Sons of the American Revolution has their annual reading of the Declaration of Independence in Leesburg.

August 8, 2026, was a memorable day for the Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR as we saw the dedication of the Prince William County Revolutionary War Memorial. Started by President Ross Schwalm, the Memorial was completed five years earlier than expected. He was proud to award the Silver Good Citizenship Medal to Rob Orrison of the Prince William Office of Historic Preservation. Many members of the Chapter were in attendance as were members from throughout the Northern Region of the state. Yesterday showed why it is a GREAT DAY to be a Son of the American Revolution.

The Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR, with members from the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter-Sons of the American Revolution, Colonel James Woods II Chapter, and Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter, held the first ever Revolutionary War Day at the Puller Veterans Care Center. The residents were very excited to meet the Chapter members and be presented with multiple aspects of the American Revolution. The group also did a flag presentation and musket salute for the veterans. Concluding the event was the presentation of two copies of the Declaration of Independence; one which was able to be signed by the resident, the other a copy of the 1776 newspaper edition of the Declaration. This event showed why it is a good day to be a Son of the American Revolution.

On July 23, 1776, 30 brave militiamen from Prince William County drove off 108 British soldiers, marines and sailors at Richland, the home of Captain William Brent. Today, July 23, 2026, the Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR commemorated this event as a 250 America event. It was the FIRST TIME this event was ever commemorated. Vice President Jeff Sterling was the Master of Ceremony for the event. Historian Chalrs Mills offered insight to the Roppon Lodge Historic Site. Color Guard Commander Jon Huddleston, Quartermaster Jack Mills, Guardsman Bill Groth were joined by Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard Commander James Cordes. George Washington Chapter, Virginia SAR President Scot Bryant was in attendance. President Andrew Mills said, "Let is never be forgotten that one man from Prince William County is worth three British soldiers."

On July 20, The Colonel William Grayson Chapter, Virginia Society, National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution presented Hero Commendations and medals to Town of Haymarket (Haymarket, Virginia) Police Department Sergeant Donald Finley and Office Joseph Coppage. On Saturday July 18, Colonel William Grayson Chapter, SAR Historian Charles Mills delivered an excellent lecture to over sixty people at the Arlington Library America 250 event. Turnout for this festival was phenomenal and many visitors were interested in learning more about the SAR.
