While visiting a local retirement community to install a smoke detector for a resident, members of Engine 3 A-Shift discovered that he was a Retired Lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department. What started as a simple safety visit quickly turned into a great conversation filled with stories, memories, and a shared connection to the fire service.

These interactions remind us that the fire service is more than responding to emergencies. It’s about serving our community, building relationships, and honoring those who came before us.
