Manalapan Township ARES RACES

Manalapan Township ARES RACES The Manalapan Township ARES and RACES Group brings together amateur radio licensed operators who volunteer their skills to provide back up communications.

The Manalapan Township ARES* and RACES** Group brings together amateur radio (Ham) licensed operators who volunteer their skills to provide back up communications to the Township during emergencies. The Group supports both the Township's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Township's MRC/CERT organizations. All that is required to join the Group is to have a minimum of a technician class

license and be willing to volunteer your services during a Township emergency. Extensive experience as an operator is not a pre-requisite to join the Group as there are many opportunities throughout the year to train and gain experience. The Group conducts local training nets twice each month and generally meets quarterly for specific training opportunities including the ARRL's national Field Day emergency communications test/contest each June. Other training opportunities occur throughout the year in support of the MRC/CERT group and its training exercises. The Group has provided back up communications to the Township during Hurricane Irene and Super storm Sandy. For further information please see the contact information on this page. 73

06/22/2019

Today, Saturday June 22 2019, the Manalapan Township ARES/RACES Team will be participating in the national ARRL Field Day from 9am to 6pm. The public is invited to join us at the Manalapan Township Municipal Building, Employee lot, to observe and participate.

The ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) Team will be using Ham Radio equipment and generators under "emergency conditions" to set up, operate, and make contact with others around the country and world.

As many of you may recall, during the Superstorm Sandy disaster of 2012, Manalapan Township was without many essential services for the better part of 2 weeks. The ARES/RACES team provided critical communication services for the Township shelter operations, coordination with County and State Services, and backup emergency service dispatch.

You are all invited to come down, say hello, see what we do, and even join in. We look forward to seeing you!

Nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts has been POSTPONED due to response efforts for .

NEW DATE: October 3, 2:18 - 2:20pm EDT

This test assesses operational readiness, distribution of a national message. https://t.co/gZ6Mf7bWZW

09/20/2018

Due to severe weather across much of the East Coast and ongoing response efforts, the national emergency alert test has been postponed to the backup date of Oct. 3, 2018 at 2:18 PM EDT.

Things to know:

đŸ”¹It’s a nationwide test of the same system (Wireless Emergency Alerts, or WEA) that pushes public emergency messages like AMBER alerts.

đŸ”¹The WEA system is overseen by FEMA & the Federal Communications Commission. This is different from a text message and your phone number is not shared with anyone.

đŸ”¹Presidential Alerts are one out of the three categories of alerts set by law. These are only for national emergencies and there is a process in place to draft and send the messages.

If you have more questions about the test, visit the FAQ at fema.gov/emergency-alert-test.

Greetings, I will be conducting a special winter storm net at 1500 hours local this afternoon. The net will be on the Manalapan Township ARES/RACES primary frequency of 146.550 simplex. Please check in so we can test the effectiveness of our equipment and ability to change frequencies from our regular nets, the efficacy of using e-mail as a notification tool for emergency nets and get real time local weather reports from those that check in.

If possible, please use back up power such as battery (HT's would be great) or generator. I realize the weather is terrible and forecast to be worse by 1500 so don't go to extraordinary lengths to use back up power. The first thing is for all to stay safe!

I will also broadcast a message over K2GE at 1130 hours about the special net.

Hope you are all coping well with the storm.

73 to all,

de N2UUS
