Did you know.......
For the last twelve years, the Mammoth Community Center has paid for custodial services to keep the building s***k and span?
Over the last couple of years, Melanie Pierce has not only kept up with regular surface cleaning but has taken on many deep-cleaning projects that have noticeably enhanced the building's appearance.
When the pandemic broke out, Melanie along with the MCC Board took the initiative to disinfect surfaces regularly and thoroughly. Our commitment to sanitizing the building has helped keep the community safe. Every week, Melanie provides cleaning rags for the fitness room. Although the Superintendent's office provides regular cleaning supplies, the MCC Board pays for all custodial services, specialized cleaning supplies for gym mats, exercise equipment, bathrooms, and other things.

We care about our community. We love this Community Center! So, even though we have decided to dissolve as a board at the end of the month, we have decided to extend Melanie's custodial services through February.

Dear Community Members,
For the last twelve years the Mammoth Community Center has been managed by a board of volunteers who have ensured that events such as National Park Service employee trainings, childhood education programs, summer camps, extracurricular activities, community events fitness classes, art classes, fitness room memberships, chili cook-offs and cookie bake-offs, and an open space for families to recreate and play could all happen in a clean, safe space. The volunteer work was extensive and time consuming, but the past and present volunteers were fueled by the desire to make the community a better place. Over the years, board and community members have put thousands of hours into numerous renovation and cleanup projects that have made the building such a great versatile facility.

All of our furniture, fitness equipment, custodial services and other operational expenses have been covered by the ability to host fundraisers and through community donations. The pandemic has prohibited our operation from hosting such events and has limited the overall usage of the facility.

The MCC non-profit organization has unanimously voted to dissolve on December 31, 2020, and return responsibilities to the Park.

As of January 1, 2021, any questions about the MCC should be directed to Rachel Cudmore in the Special Use Permits Office.

We will continue providing custodial services until December 31, 2020, and will be available to answer questions and help in any way we can during this transition.

Included on this post is a picture of the winners of this year's chili cook-off and cookie bake-off, for nostalgic purposes!

MCC Spotlight:

The MCC Board sends out a huge thank-you to Melanie Pierce, our custodian, for keeping the community center clean. A true professional, Melanie brings impressive knowledge and a can-do attitude to the job. She always goes above and beyond by letting us know what needs attention, digging in to special projects (washing ALL the building’s windows, researching the best cleaning methods and materials, waxing the floors, having our entrance mats professionally cleaned), and even volunteering some of her time. Since mid-March, she has added tasks to her weekly cleaning routine to help protect our community from COVID-19. She has disinfected surfaces, provided and laundered cleaning rags for the fitness room, cleaned bathrooms thoroughly, and deep-cleaned the Center’s long-neglected nooks and crannies. If you see Melanie, please tell her you appreciate her hard work.

Cookie Judge Spotlight:
Cindy Mellott

Originally from Gettysburg-ish, Pennsylvania (Littlestown—5 miles south of Gettysburg but nobody knows where that is).

Cindy moved to Yellowstone in 1982 and has three grown children, two of which live in Texas and one here in Gardiner. She is also a proud grandmother of four beautiful granddaughters.

Cindy does cake decorating as a “cheaper than Prozac” therapy; she started cake decorating when she was 15 years old learning from her mother’s co-worker. Around the community, Cindy is known as the lady who can make cake into just about ANYTHING. She loves a challenge! Her incredible artistic skills, attention to detail and delicious abilities make her a great asset to have on the cookie judging panel this year.
