Thank you to all who offered their support whether you made a financial contribution or continued to post your observations to the website, we could not do what we do without you.
Avalanche activity is likely to continue this spring. For an extensive list of education materials, weather resources, and more information on typical springtime hazards visit the ESAC website.

Generally stable conditions exist. Small, Wet Loose avalanches may become possible on sunny slopes as the sun comes out and temperatures rise. Monitor for warming as you travel, and move to shadier terrain if you find wet snow at the surface. Keep in mind that a small avalanche in extreme terrain brings elevated consequences.
The last forecast of the season is planned for Sunday, April 19th. General Avalanche Information bulletins will be updated through the end of April as conditions warrant.

4/16/2026: Low danger does not equate to no danger. Small wet loose avalanches may become possible on sunny slopes. Monitor for warming as you travel and move to shadier terrain if you find wet snow at the surface. In steep northerly terrain, keep an eye out for isolated wind-drifted instabilities. A small avalanche in extreme terrain brings elevated consequences.

4/15/2026: The avalanche hazard will rise to moderate as the day warms. Small wet loose avalanches are expected to become possible by this afternoon. Monitor surfaces as they soften, and reduce your exposure to steep slopes as the snow transitions to wet and unsupportable.

Field observations continue to highlight generally favorable skiing and riding conditions, along with typical springtime considerations. Isolated wet snow avalanches, long & dry approaches, patchy snow coverage, warm temperatures, and variable surfaces are all on the menu today. Get an early start and consider specialized tools to manage hard snow surfaces this morning.

The spring can be a very dynamic time in the mountains, and it looks like we are in for a change in the weather pattern over the weekend. A winter storm watch has been issued for the Eastern Sierra.  Beginning tomorrow afternoon, we can expect decreasing temperatures, gusty winds, and mountain snow showers.  Unsettled weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with snow lines dropping as low as 7,000 feet and significant snow accumulations possible by Sunday night. Keep this in mind as you start to think through your weekend plans. New snow and increasing winds will lead to rising hazard and a return to midwinter avalanche considerations.
