The snow may be melting but the training never stops!
We use scented pieces of clothing called "articles" to simulate deeper avalanche burials. We can also bury them in ways to simulate a more difficult dig for the dog, providing a greater challenge for them!
As you can tell has no issues finding them!!

Today we remember the late and great Chief! On what would have been his 18th birthday!

Chief was one of the earliest members of EastsideK9 and set the standard for all of our avalanche dogs!

Duckworth x Eastside K9 — setting the stage for future finds 🐾

A huge thank you to for sending boxes of wool layers for our avalanche dog program. These pieces become “articles” — worn by patrollers for a week until they’re thoroughly scent-saturated, then buried to simulate deeper, longer burial scenarios.

Articles are a critical part of our training, and it turns out it’s a lot easier to convince people to wear something for a week when it’s this comfortable.

Fitting that a company founded on a ski lift is now supporting our work. Check them out for USA-made, high-quality merino wool layers.
