Dr Robert Shaps says he’s “Not here to talk about race.” Is that what we want as the superintendent of our school district? Is this the type of person who should be a part of the DISTRICT EQUITY TEAM?
If you’re angry, send in your emails. Share this, and hopefully we can bring REAL CHANGE.

It’s time that they all DO BETTER.

According to the district calendar- September 8th is the first day back to school for all students.
This gives current students the opportunity to show the school administration (BOE & Superintendent) that Do Better’s work is far from over.

I encourage current students of MHS to join together in a school walk out. For those of you who plan on in person classes, once that first bell rings, stand up and walk out.

Wear a black shirt, and like in the picture below- tape an ‘x’ over your mask.

Students should be, and should feel safe in schools. Children should not have to suffer because of the district leaderships incompetence.

Gratitude and apologies aren’t followed by negations.

At the last board meeting that took place, people come forward to share their disappointment in district leadership for failing to show up to our first big Rally.

At this meeting Rina Beder, newly elected president of the BOE stated:
“Thank you for sharing your stories today.”

“However... the BOE fully supports superintendent Dr. Shaps and believes the work being done in the district is best done under his guidance.”

You are supposed to be committed to the students.
YOUR DUTY IS TO THE STUDENTS. Not just a few, not just the white and privileged, but to ALL.
Black students matter. Black educations matter.

Change is coming.

What is Do Better?

Do Better is a group of present students, Alumni, and community members of the Larchmont and Mamaroneck Communities.

We are dedicated to BIPOC of the Mamaroneck Public School District located in Westchester.

Time and time again issues of racism- emotional, mental and even in the form of physical abuse has gone by unchecked by the people who hold power in the district. Their commitment is supposed to be to ALL of their students regardless of race / ethnicity.

The district has faced not 1- but FIVE office of civil rights investigations being filed against them in JUST THE PAST TWO YEARS.

The biggest one right now is a lawsuit that discusses years of abuse for two children, who eventually had to be homeschooled do becoming depressed as a result of the school leadership FAILING to create a SAFE & INCLUSIVE environment.

You fail one- You fail us all.
