The pictorial history of our village, entitled “Around Malvern”, remains for sale at our society building with a select number of copies signed by the author.

If getting to our building on Saturday mornings between 10:00 and 12 noon isn’t doable, copies are still for sale on Amazon.

Keep our village on the map with the publishers by obtaining a copy. In the event the author decides to create a second publication, the publishers will base their acceptance to print upon how successful the first creation was, sales-wise.

The September 19, 1878 issue of the Stark County Democrat (Canton, Ohio) details flood waters in our area. The write-up mentions the rain had fallen incessantly and the "streams commenced to rise."

Sandy Creek was at a higher level than at any time for years. Railroad and county bridges had been washed away. Abram Unkefer, Esq., of Minerva had a barn washed away and at Bayard, many dwellings were partially submerged, and residents were forced to leave. A flock of sheep belonging to John Clark, 15 in number, were all drowned but one.

Little Oneida was a busy place at one time.

A member of the Beiter family placed an ad in the April 4, 1884 issue of the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Beiters, who owned a marble works in Oneida, were looking for help in their shop. The plea specifies the workman needed to be sober and reliable.

Also included here is a photo of Ignatius Beiter's tombstone. Beiter cut marble monuments for many local cemeteries with his sons George and Joseph following in his footsteps.

A snippet from the 1860 Brown Township, Carroll County census here reveals the Beiter family which included a large number of children.
