We welcome visitors to join us and watch the hounds in action. Welcome to our page! Skycastle French Hounds is a fun-loving pack of French bassets and their human friends, who can be found most Sundays chasing wily rabbits somewhere in Chester County. Founded by Elizabeth Streeter in 1948 at her Skycastle Farm in Chester Springs, Skycastle French Hounds hunts at various locations in northern and central Chester County each weekend. Basseting is a sport in which trained basset hounds and their huntsman search for and chase rabbits by scent. The goal for the hounds is a good chase and run to ground (down a hole), not a meal. Human spectators follow the hunt to watch the hounds at work, but their goal is a chase AND a meal, so all Skycastle hunts end with a delicious tea! Unlike foxhunting, basseting is done on foot, and as such is a sport open to anyone who'd like a hearty walk in the fresh air over beautiful local countryside.
