Earlier today, Squad 5 (B Platoon) responded to assist the members of Goshen Fire Company and the Goshen Professional Firefighters at a working residential structure fire in East Goshen Township.

Arriving as the second due engine, the Squad crew assisted with securing a water supply, fire suppression operations, and primary search efforts. Deputy 5 also responded and operated on scene alongside the crew.

Today, members of the “A” Platoon of IAFF Local 4551 conducted a training review and skills refresher following a recent Advanced Elevator Rescue course.

Elevator emergencies can range from routine passenger entrapments to complex incidents involving mechanical failures, medical emergencies, and rescues in high-rise and commercial occupancies. As residential, healthcare, and commercial development continues throughout our response area, elevator-related incidents remain a regular and important part of our operational readiness.

Training like this ensures our members remain prepared to safely and efficiently manage these unique emergencies while providing the highest level of service to our community.

Special thanks to Clarks Fire & Safety Training, LLC and Samuel Clark for delivering valuable instruction and helping our members continue to build their technical rescue capabilities.

I am happy to let you know that my bill to establish a statewide program providing free annual cancer screenings for firefighters passed unanimously out of the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness committee and now heads to the House for full consideration.

House Bill 2394 would ensure that firefighters can access annual cancer screening examinations at no cost when those services are not fully covered by their health insurance. The program would apply to both career and volunteer firefighters across the Commonwealth.

On the evening of June 8th, members of IAFF Local 4551 were proud to attend the Great Valley 5th and 6th Grade Center's "Summer Send Off" event.

Our members enjoyed spending time with students, families, and community members while displaying our apparatus, answering questions, and sharing information about the services we provide each day. Events like these are a great opportunity to build relationships with the community we proudly serve and give residents a closer look at the equipment and personnel that respond when help is needed.

Thank you to the Great Valley School District for inviting us to be part of this fantastic event. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and enjoyable summer!

Over the last two days, members of IAFF Local 4551 participated in Advanced Elevator Rescue Training, sharpening the skills needed to safely and efficiently manage one of the more technical rescue situations we encounter.

Elevator emergencies can range from routine passenger entrapments to complex incidents involving mechanical failures, medical emergencies, and rescues in high-rise or commercial occupancies. With the growing number of residential, healthcare, and commercial buildings throughout our response area, elevator-related incidents are a regular occurrence for our members.

This hands-on training focused on elevator construction, safety systems, emergency operations, and advanced rescue techniques designed to safely remove occupants while protecting both rescuers and those trapped inside.

Training like this ensures our members are prepared not only for the everyday elevator calls we routinely handle, but also for the unusual and challenging situations that can arise without warning.

We remain committed to continuously improving our skills and capabilities to provide the highest level of service to the residents, visitors, and businesses of East Whiteland Township.

Special thanks to:

Clark Fire & Safety Training, LLC

And Immaculata University to access to a wide range of different elevators and elevator equipment

On May 19, 2026, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and the Great Valley School District conducted a Full-Scale Active Threat Exercise at Great Valley High School alongside first responders from throughout Chester County.

Members of IAFF Local 4551 proudly participated in what was the largest full-scale active threat drill conducted to date in Chester County. These exercises are designed to test multi-agency coordination, communication, and emergency response capabilities under high-stress and realistic conditions.

This drill is another example of the dedication and professionalism our members bring to the job every day as they continue to prepare for the worst-case scenarios our communities may face. Months of planning, coordination, and collaboration went into making this exercise possible.

We are proud to work alongside the Great Valley School District, Chester County Department of Emergency Services, law enforcement, EMS, fire departments, and other community partners to help protect our students, teachers, staff, and residents.

Thank you to everyone involved for their commitment to public safety and preparedness.

The members of Local 4551 are deeply saddened by the passing of Past Fire Chief George “Bud” Turner of the West Whiteland Fire Company.

Chief Turner was a true mentor, leader, and legend in the Chester County fire service whose dedication to his community spanned nearly 57 years.

Local 4551 stands with West Whiteland Fire Company and the Turner family during this difficult time. Rest easy Chief — your legacy will never be forgotten.

Today, members of Local 4551 met with the crews from Paoli Fire Company and Tower 3 to review aerial master stream operations and gain a hands-on overview of Tower 3’s capabilities and operations.

Crews also took time to review the needs and requirements for Jones snap adapters on older fire hydrants throughout the local area, ensuring compatibility and preparedness during fireground operations.

Training and interagency cooperation like this are critical to maintaining efficient operations and ensuring our members are prepared for any incident we may face together. We’d like to thank Paoli Fire Company and the crew of Tower 3 for taking the time to work with our members today.

Shortly before 7:30 last evening, the C Platoon was dispatched the 500 Block of Lancaster Avenue for an automatic crash notification. While enroute, crews were receiving additional calls reporting a one vehicle accident that struck a building. Squad 5 and Ambulance 5-1 arrived and found a vehicle off the roadway and into a building.

Crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and requested a Medic due to the nature of the injuries. Captain 5 established command and begun assessing the damage and requested additional resources bringing in the West Whiteland Fire Company. Crews secured the vehicle and controlled leaking fluids.

Chief 72 was requested from the Chester County Rescue Task Force for a structural assessment before removing the vehicle from the structure.

The East Whiteland Fire Company Fire Police assisted with traffic control. The East Whiteland Township Department of Codes also provided assistance.
