The 2026 Disability Summit united two incredible events, EmpathyTech and Cities of Inclusion, under one umbrella to explore new ideas, challenge perspectives, foster meaningful connections, and strengthen a shared commitment to creating a more inclusive future.

The Vanguard School and Services (VSS) was excited to join disability advocates, educators, innovators, and community leaders at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on October 7–8 to explore new ideas, build meaningful connections, and envision a more inclusive future.

VSS Executive Director Tom Quinn played an active role in both events, co-leading a workshop with Neumann University at EmpathyTech and hosting the educational track at Cities of Inclusion.

As we look toward the next 250 years, we believe building more inclusive communities requires collaboration, creativity, and a shared commitment to action. At VSS, we’re not just excited to have a seat at the table—we’re committed to helping build the table where innovation, advocacy, and opportunity come together.

Thank you to the organizers, Pletly and Special Olympics (Pennsylvania), presenters, volunteers, and participants for two days of thoughtful conversations and fresh perspectives. We’re energized by the possibilities ahead and grateful to be part of a community working to ensure everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, work, and thrive!

On October 14, Vanguard students will take to the campus walking paths for the Dolphin Dash, a day filled with movement, encouragement, and school spirit. Funds raised support Vanguard Values, helping recognize positive behavior, celebrate achievements, and reinforce the skills that help students succeed every day.

We would like to give a special shoutout to Vanguard alumnus, Jeffery Matlack, for his incredible support during this year's Book Fair!

Jeffery played a key role in managing sales, assisting students, and helping ensure the event ran smoothly from start to finish. His dedication, leadership, and willingness to give back to our school community made a meaningful impact on the success of this year's fair.
