In May 2025, we were excited to award Chelsea Taylor as the third recipient of the Brenda March Education Foundation Scholarship through Great Valley High School. The requirements of the scholarship were a student who was committed to a passion, hobby, or activity outside of the classroom to help grow their life skills in addition to being a successful student. After reading through 61 essays, we chose Chelsea. While many students talked about sports and other organized activities, Chelsea was able to narrow down her interest in biology and public health to working towards eventually going to medical school. At the same time, she found a passion in creating and designing jewelry and started her own jewelry line. Simultaneously, she founded a Doctors Without Borders (DWB) chapter at Great Valley High School to raise awareness and fundraising for many global humanitarian crises.
At first she struggled to fathom how her passion and hobby for making art and running a mail order small business would enrich her life interest in medicine. From her learnings with the DWB chapter, she was able to combine her goal of going to med school and continuing her jewelry business, not only creating income for herself but also to donate 50% of the profits made from her business to the DWB organization. By running the DWB club , she learned about the substantial impact their physicians had on bridging global healthcare gaps. We were extremely impressed with her ability to create a business that helped support her own goals while also helping support global healthcare.
Before even graduating high school, Chelsea was able to learn how to execute all the necessary business functions such as making the jewelry and clothing by hand, hiring ambassadors to model the products, handling the social media platforms, and broadening the percentage of profits donated to DWB. Her company, Tuphoric, has obtained a 5,000+ follower market and has shipped their products to customers nationally and internationally. By increasing her awareness of the entrepreneurial and philanthropic aspects of owning this business, she has learned more about medicine, the impact of public health throughout the world, and confirmed her interest in medicine through the process.
Chelsea will be attending University of Pittsburgh this fall. Congratulations to all her success and can’t wait to see her future accomplishments!
