As we celebrate Memorial Day and honor our veterans, we’re looking back at a powerful conversation about the invisible effects of service. We often hear about the physical sacrifices of our military, but the journey through TBI and PTS is one many veterans and their families navigate privately.

We are honored to share the story of General Donald C. Bolduc (USA, Ret.). A leader who headed one of the first groups in Afghanistan after 9/11, the General now uses his experience with combat-related brain injury to advocate for others.

Highlights of this episode:
The reality of surviving a 2000-pound bomb blast and its long-term effects.
Sharon Bolduc’s perspective on the vital role of the family caretaker.
How the General is using his leadership background to support transitioning service members.

On Tuesday we took to the cool conditions in the Paoli Starbucks to gather and update our database of donors and friends.
We were happily joined by one of our new MYB Fellows William Perez. William is studying Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University and is a local graduate of Malvern Prep. We are looking forward to what he will offer for insights in his time shared with us during his fellowship.
(As one of three key initiatives for The Mind your Brain Foundation®, our Research Fellowships are designed to fill a gap in the continuity of care for TBI patients who seek rehabilitation options for a lifetime of improvement. We are focusing on several areas of research with select partners in the Philadelphia area, based on their clinical expertise and available resources).

Caregivers: You are the backbone of recovery. But who cares for you? As we focus on mental health this month, in our world it is often about the TBI survivors, but we know that caregivers take on so much and often do not address their own mental health issues. So we want to remind the caregiver to give themselves, too.

We are thrilled to officially welcome Sophie Farley, MMS, PA-C, to the Mind Your Brain Foundation Board of Directors! Sophie’s journey with us began in 2025 as a dedicated intern, where she proved instrumental in managing our Champions event and supporting our daily mission. A board-certified Physician Assistant and current faculty member at Arcadia University, Sophie brings an elite clinical background in neurosurgery from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she specialized in managing complex head trauma and strokes.

In her new role, Sophie aims to bridge the gap between acute medical intervention and long-term recovery. By combining her neuroscience expertise with her ongoing work in Public Health, she is dedicated to enhancing rehabilitation care and support systems for brain injury survivors and their families. We are so grateful to have her clinical rigor and passion on our leadership team—welcome aboard, Sophie!
