Thank you to the Justamere Foundation for their impactful support of Gateway HorseWorks! The Justamere Foundation has awarded us a $25,000 grant to support the expansion of Galloping Home, our equine-assisted psychotherapy program serving Veterans. 🇺🇸🐴

This generous funding will help launch an exciting new partnership with Merakey’s Fresh Start program, bringing Veterans to Gateway HorseWorks for mental health treatment alongside our horses and clinical team.

Galloping Home provides Veterans with a different way to engage in therapy—one that is experiential, relationship-based, and takes place outside the traditional clinical setting. Through our partnership with Fresh Start, we look forward to making this work accessible to even more Veterans in our community.

We are deeply grateful to the Justamere Foundation for believing in this work and investing in the mental health and well-being of those who have served, and to the team at Merakey Fresh Start for joining us in this new partnership.

Our team continues to grow! We’re excited to welcome John Lopez, Esq., LSW, to the Gateway HorseWorks team! 🐴💚

John will serve as a mental health professional with Leading the Way, our equine-assisted mental health program serving students in the School District of Philadelphia at Fox Chase Farm.

John brings a unique multidisciplinary background in law, social work, education, and community advocacy to this work. After earning his undergraduate degree from East Stroudsburg University, John attended Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law. He began his legal career as a public defender in Philadelphia and later served as an adjunct professor at Drexel Law.

Most recently, John served as a Staff Attorney and Legal Director with the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project, where he advocated alongside young people charged in the adult criminal legal system.

Driven by a desire to deepen his work supporting individuals and communities, John earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 2024. Across his legal, educational, and facilitation roles, his work has centered on advocacy, relationship-building, and wellness.

John is passionate about creating spaces where young people feel supported, connected, and empowered, and we are thrilled to have him bring that experience and perspective to Leading the Way.

We’re thrilled to officially welcome Allison Gibbs, LCSW, CAMS II, as Clinical Director of Gateway HorseWorks! 🐴💚

Allison brings more than 20 years of clinical experience to Gateway HorseWorks. She earned her Master of Social Work from West Chester University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS II), and certified in EMDR. Licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas, Allison has spent her career supporting people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, and major life transitions.

Across her clinical and supervisory roles, Allison’s work has centered on helping people move through difficult experiences with greater resilience and self-understanding. As our Clinical Director, she is excited to bring that same commitment to equine-assisted mental health treatment and to strengthen the clinical foundation of Gateway HorseWorks as we continue to grow.

Allison’s position was made possible through a transformative three-year, $225,000 grant from the van Ameringen Foundation, which is funding the creation of Gateway HorseWorks’ first-ever Clinical Director position. We are deeply grateful to the van Ameringen Foundation for investing in the clinical infrastructure that will allow us to expand access to high-quality mental health treatment while maintaining the integrity of our work.
